Exhibitions over the years have marked the name of painter Thai Vinh Thanh in the Vietnamese painting community.

- Hello artist Thai Vinh Thanh, can you share about your recent exhibitions?
- Painting is my life, I paint by all means, with whatever I have to avoid pessimism and create joy in life. Recently, I held an exhibition called “Still+” at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts with 5 other artists. “Still+” is a meaningful name and implies that, amidst the difficulties, losses, and pain of the pandemic, artists still live, are still optimistic, still paint, and still love.
I paint in a variety of genres, but the core to recognize me is abstract, expressionist abstract, and with abstract the most important elements are expression and color. Painter Le Hai Trieu commented on my paintings like this: “The colors in Thai Vinh Thanh’s paintings are delicious and sweet. I like Thanh’s color palette the most, the accumulation of decades of experience in the profession is his achievement.”
My colleagues often comment: Looking at Thai Vinh Thanh's paintings always gives a feeling of trust, optimism, and love of life. Curator Ngo Kim Khoi said: "Thanh's paintings are not only paintings, interwoven between impression and expression, but also have the rhythm of music , a joyful and jubilant music. Sit in your living room, look at Thai Vinh Thanh's paintings on the wall, admire the colors dancing together in a symphony of joy, in your heart rise the ambitions of people towards friendship...". That is true of me, my paintings.
- What aspect of your painting do you like?
- Flexible color harmony, fresh color combinations, and positive energy are always present in my works - this is what I am especially interested in and try to express it in the most vivid way.
I think like this, although painting in an impressionist, abstract, semi-abstract style, the meticulousness is always shown in everything related to the painting, from the preparation stage, implementation to completion; everything is extremely careful, clean, solemn and polished.
In my works, viewers can see the color of moonlight on a sparkling lake or the color of white-capped waves rolling in the distance. All of these moments are captured by me with sudden emotions that are hard to encounter again.
- Many experts say that your paintings have their own style, are very different and impressive in terms of color harmony and shape. Are there any comments from experts that make you emotional or make you feel “understood” during the creative process?
- Most recently, in the exhibition "Transition of Seasons", I also received reviews and recognition from many art critics and this made me very happy. I was happy not only because of the reviews of lines, shapes..., but also because many people were in tune with the emotions in my paintings. For example, curator Ngo Kim Khoi felt that "Thanh carries visual art in joy, we will not find sadness or melancholy in Thanh's paintings".
- Loving nature and every moment of life, how does that affect your feelings and emotions when you paint?
- I spent a lot of time watching and enjoying the vibrant transitions of nature. The nuances of nature's form are expressed through the colors, the changes of colors in the weather, in the sunlight or the quiet night with the presence of the bright moon and the distant stars.
Changes create rhythm and life for all. Nature rotates and transforms as a matter of course. And artists accept that as a priceless gift from creation. I am no exception. I always bring nature into every moment of painting, it permeates every shape and color. Each of my works is a story about life, about all things, about beautiful nature.
- What do you care most about when expressing in each of your paintings?
- Depth of painting is when the artist ensures the balance of his work. To achieve that, two core elements are needed: solid technique and flexible mindset. Technique helps the artist to be confident and ensure the professionalism of a painting. And flexible mindset helps them create a lively personality for that work.
I think I have both of these elements, not too much in the concept of shaping nor in the goal of creating a different form of painting. I use closeness and familiarity to approach myself and the public, and nature is the most ideal choice.
By observing changes in nature, we gradually become flexible with those changes, able to describe and express those changes without following any pattern.
And it is this presence that helps me convey my deep inner thoughts into my work.
- Thank you artist Thai Vinh Thanh!
