- Hello, artist Thai Vinh Thanh, could you share some information about your recent exhibitions?

- For me, painting is my raison d'être. I paint in every way, with whatever I have, to avoid pessimism and to create joy in life. Recently, I held an exhibition called "Still+" at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts along with five other artists. "Still+" is a name that signifies that, amidst the difficulties, losses, and suffering of the pandemic, the artist still lives, remains optimistic, continues to paint, and continues to love.

I paint in a variety of genres, but the defining characteristic of my work is abstraction, expressive abstraction, and with abstraction, the most important elements are expressiveness and color. Artist Le Hai Trieu commented on my paintings like this: “The colors in Thai Vinh Thanh’s paintings are delicious, sweet and vibrant. I like Thanh’s color palette the most; the culmination of decades of experience in the craft is his achievement.”

My colleagues often comment: Looking at Thai Vinh Thanh's paintings always gives me a feeling of trust, optimism, and love of life. Curator Ngo Kim Khoi said: "In Thanh's paintings, there is not only painting, interwoven with impressionism and expressionism, but also the rhythm of music , a kind of joyful and vibrant music. Sit in your living room, admire Thai Vinh Thanh's paintings on the wall, contemplate the colors dancing together in a symphony of joy, and in your heart, the aspirations of humanity towards friendship will arise..." That is true for me, for my paintings.

- What aspects of your paintings do you find most satisfying?

- The flexible color palette and vibrant, energetic color combinations that are always abundant in my works are something I particularly care about and strive to express in the most vivid way possible.

My philosophy is this: although I paint in the Impressionist, Abstract, and Semi-Abstract styles, meticulousness is always evident in everything related to the painting, from the preparation and execution stages to completion; everything is extremely careful, clean, dignified, and refined.

In my works, viewers can see the color of moonlight shimmering on the lake's surface or the color of white-crested waves rolling in the distance. All these moments are captured by me with spontaneous emotions that are unlikely to be encountered again.

- Many experts consider your paintings to have a unique style, very different and impressive in terms of color harmony and form. Were there any comments from experts that moved you or made you feel "understood" during the creative process?

- Most recently, in the "Changing Seasons" exhibition, I also received praise and recognition from many art critics, and this made me very happy. I'm happy not only because of the assessments of lines and forms, but also because I see that many people resonate with the emotions in my paintings. For example, curator Ngo Kim Khoi said, "Thanh conveys visual art in joy; we will not find sadness or melancholy in Thanh's paintings."

- How does your love for nature and every moment of life influence your feelings and emotions when you paint?

- I spent a lot of time observing and enjoying the vibrant transitions of nature. The nuances of nature's form are expressed through colors, the changes in color tones in the weather, in the sunlight, or in the tranquil night with the presence of the bright moon and distant stars.

Changes create the rhythm and life for all. Nature revolves and transforms as a matter of course. And the artist embraces this as a priceless gift from creation; I am no exception. I always incorporate nature into every moment of my paintings; it permeates every form and color. Each of my works is a story about life, about the universe, about beautiful nature.

- What is your primary focus when expressing yourself through each of your paintings?

- The depth of painting lies in the artist's ability to ensure balance in their work. Achieving this requires two core elements: solid technique and a flexible mindset. Technique gives the artist confidence and ensures the professionalism of a painting. A flexible mindset allows them to create a lively character in the artwork.

I believe I possess both of these elements perfectly, neither overly focused on conceptual form nor aiming to create a distinct style of painting. I approach myself and the public through intimacy and familiarity, and nature is the ideal choice.

By observing the changes in nature, one will gradually become more flexible in response to those changes, capable of capturing and expressing them without following any rigid pattern.

And it was this presence that allowed me to convey my deepest emotions through my work.

Thank you, artist Thai Vinh Thanh!
