Franz Beckenbauer, the "Emperor," has passed away.

The family of football legend Franz Beckenbauer has confirmed his passing. "We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our husband and father, Franz Beckenbauer, surrounded by his family. We will not be responding to questions. We ask that everyone express their grief quietly."

Football legend Franz Beckenbauer has passed away at the age of 78.

Beckenbauer's health has gradually deteriorated since the death of his son Stephan in 2015. Since then, he has battled Parkinson's disease (dementia). He has also undergone two heart surgeries and a hip implant. In 2019, he also lost sight in one eye.

The passing of legend Franz Beckenbauer has brought much grief to the football world. He is considered one of the greatest legends in the sport . Fans nicknamed him "The Emperor".

Franz Beckenbauer is one of only three people in football history to have won the World Cup as both a player and a coach, along with Mario Zagallo (who passed away last week) and Didier Deschamps. He won the 1974 World Cup with West Germany as a player and the 1990 World Cup with West Germany as a coach. In addition, the legend, born in 1945, also won the 1972 European Championship.

Franz Beckenbauer is also a legend of Bayern Munich. He won four Bundesliga titles and three European Cups as a player. Later, as a coach of Bayern Munich, he won another Bundesliga title and a UEFA Cup.

Outside of Germany, Franz Beckenbauer won the Ligue 1 title with Marseille in the 1990/91 season as a coach.

Individually, he won two Ballon d'Or awards in 1972 and 1976. In addition, this legend won numerous other prestigious UEFA and FIFA titles. In the poll for the best player of the 20th century, Franz Beckenbauer was considered the third greatest player in football history, after Pele and Johan Cruyff.
