BHG - Implementing comprehensive and sustainable agricultural development towards commodity production, linked with the New Rural Development (NRD) emulation movement, Hoang Su Phi district has focused on disseminating information and mobilizing people to change crop structures, renovate neglected gardens, and apply science and technology to develop household garden economies . This is a practical solution that not only creates a green, clean, and beautiful environment but also helps sustainable development and increase income for the people.
Hoang Su Phi district has great potential for agricultural development, especially in the production of garden-based products. However, most gardens still consist of mixed crops that do not yield economic benefits. To implement the "Cultural and Agricultural Development" movement and build model gardens in the New Rural Development program, the District People's Committee has directed the participation of the Farmers' Association, Women's Association, and Youth Union to support households in developing cultural and agricultural models, designing plots, selecting suitable plant varieties, and guiding farmers on scientific and technical methods for planting and caring for crops organically. Currently, these models for developing cultural and agricultural production have received active participation and are being effectively implemented by the people, spreading throughout the district. Based on its strong agricultural and livestock sectors, Hoang Su Phi district is focusing on building three value chains: Shan Tuyet tea, fruit trees, and high-quality rice products.

Shan Tuyet tea is a key crop that is helping the district rapidly eradicate poverty and enabling many households to become prosperous. Tea cultivation has been practiced by the people for a long time, and they are familiar with and experienced in growing and harvesting it. The tea grown and developed in the commune is the Shan Tuyet variety, which is very delicious and popular in the market. Because of these characteristics, the district has considered tea a leading economic crop in recent years. In 2024, the processed tea production reached 2,380 tons, with an estimated value of nearly 350 billion VND, making a significant contribution to the value of the district's agriculture and forestry sector and providing a stable income for households involved in tea cultivation and processing.
Blood plums are a famous product of Hoang Su Phi district, second only to Shan Tuyet tea. With high economic value, in recent years, blood plum trees have become a major source of income, contributing to poverty reduction for many families in the district.
As one of the exemplary households in the local socio-economic development movement, the family of Ms. Lu Gia Dong, in Sui Thau village, Chien Pho commune, has over 200 Blood Plum trees, making them one of the households with the largest plum orchards in the village. Ms. Dong said: “After the commune implemented the policy of specialized fruit tree cultivation, I and many other families in the village started planting Blood Plum trees. Currently, the orchard is yielding a harvest, and after deducting all expenses, my family earns a profit of nearly 40 to 60 million VND each year. Thanks to this, my family's living standards have improved.”
Comrade Ly Choi Nhan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Su Phi district, said: "To create favorable conditions for people to develop their economy, the local government has proactively opened training courses on crop restructuring, organized visits for people to learn from effective production models. In addition, we have facilitated people's access to preferential capital sources... In 2024, the district had 100 households registered for the socio-economic development program. The results of the assessment and disbursement showed that 90 households received 2,700 million VND. The total area improved was over 39,050 m2. A total of 1,160 man-days of labor were mobilized. In the coming time, the district will continue to encourage people to switch crops and develop socio-economic development. This will contribute to the poverty eradication and rural development efforts in the locality."
The reality shows that the development of the agricultural economy has yielded clear results, contributing to the transformation from self-sufficient gardens to commercial gardens; from simple farmers to farmers who access market-oriented commodity production, thereby increasing the income of people in Hoang Su Phi district.
