- President Ho Chi Minh was not only a great leader but also a great journalist. Learning from and following his journalistic style, the team of journalists at Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station has, over the past time, stayed close to the grassroots, becoming a bridge between the people and the Party committee and government.
One hundred years ago, on June 21, 1925, President Ho Chi Minh founded the Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper in Guangzhou, China, marking the beginning of revolutionary journalism in Vietnam. His pen became a sharp weapon, accompanying the struggle for national independence, and the building and protection of the Fatherland. During his approximately 50 years as a writer, he wrote over 2,000 articles. His invaluable experience in journalism has left behind precious lessons for generations of journalists.
Journalist Tran Trinh Dieu Hang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, said: "In the past period, the Party Committee and Editorial Board of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station have directed cadres, Party members, and the public to promote the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style, especially his journalistic style. His teachings and experiences in journalistic activities have become a guiding principle for the team of journalists at Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station. Studying and emulating his journalistic style has helped the unit effectively perform its function of providing diverse, timely, and engaging information and propaganda on various aspects of social life to the public."
Uncle Ho's journalistic style was close to the people, writing in a way that the people could understand and follow. His articles were always simple, concise, using everyday language that was easy to remember and learn. Following Uncle Ho's teachings, before picking up a pen, every journalist must answer the questions: "Who am I writing for?" "What is the purpose of my writing?" "How should I write?", thereby clearly defining the target audience, purpose, and methods of the work. This is clearly demonstrated through the fact that the Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station always develop plans for publishing print and online newspapers, scripts, and weekly broadcast schedules for radio and television programs, allowing reporters to clearly define the topic, target audience, and purpose of their coverage before composing their work.
Ms. La Thi Tuyet Mai, a reporter from the Print Press Department of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, shared: "I am clearly aware of my responsibility in learning from President Ho Chi Minh's journalistic style. In my journalistic works, I learn from him the simple style of expression, the use of common language, the concise and clear writing style, with a beginning and an end, and practical content. After writing, I reread it many times to check spelling, cut out unnecessary sentences and words, and remove difficult-to-understand words."
Uncle Ho's journalistic works were always closely linked to political tasks, possessing a fighting spirit and clear direction, demonstrating a close connection between theory and practice. Following Uncle Ho's example, the journalists of the provincial newspaper and radio and television station have promptly served the political tasks of the province; effectively disseminating directives, resolutions, conclusions, and regulations of the Party, policies and laws of the State; important current events and activities of the province; and patriotic emulation movements… Propaganda works across all media always ensure content and quality, with increasingly innovative presentation; the dissemination of information on social media platforms has been strengthened, attracting a large number of readers. For example, from 2024 to the end of April 2025, the Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station will publish 346 printed issues (5 issues/week) on schedule; Broadcast nearly 13,000 radio news items and over 15,000 television news items…
Ninh Van Tuyen, Secretary of the Youth Union of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, and a reporter in the Television Department, shared: "I am most impressed by Uncle Ho's teaching that journalism cannot be separated from reality, that it needs to closely follow life, listen to the voice of the people to reflect truthfully and promptly. Therefore, for more than 10 years, I have regularly gone to the grassroots, interacted with the people, and closely followed the field to disseminate information accurately, effectively, and efficiently. 'Going there, seeing with my own eyes, and listening with my own ears' helps me gather multi-faceted information, verify the truth, and reflect objectively and truthfully the social life and aspirations of the people..."
In the context of modern journalism facing numerous difficulties and challenges, studying and emulating President Ho Chi Minh's journalistic style is all the more important. It serves as a guiding principle for journalists to uphold professional ethics, maintain integrity and vision, serve the nation and its people, and spread positive values throughout society.
