TPO - The British Council reports that a small percentage of test-takers still intentionally cheat by hiring someone to take the test for them, using various other cheating methods, or becoming victims of scammers who steal money from test-takers and then disappear.

The British Council has recently reported that some individuals are impersonating "connections with test organizers," claiming to be able to alter IELTS scores and provide test papers before the official test date.

The British Council, as the owner and provider of the Aptis ESOL test, and co-owner and provider of the IELTS test in Vietnam, has recorded thousands of Aptis ESOL and IELTS candidates achieving high scores, accurately reflecting their abilities over the years.

However, a small percentage of test-takers intentionally cheat by hiring someone to take the exam on their behalf, using various other cheating methods, or becoming victims of scammers who steal money from test-takers and then disappear. These fraudulent advertisements are posted on social media (e.g., Facebook, Zalo, etc.), forums, or websites, and sent to test-takers via email or messaging applications.

“All of the above advertising and promotional content is fraudulent. The British Council urges candidates to be vigilant when encountering such fraudulent information,” the British Council stated.

In cases of cheating, the examination board will cancel the exam results, even after the score report has been received, if the cheating is discovered through security measures that we investigate after the candidate completes the exam.

The IELTS and Aptis ESOL exams are subject to strict security measures before, during, and after the exam to ensure the accuracy and reliability of an internationally standardized foreign language proficiency test.

Serious cases of cheating may result in the cancellation of exam results, a five-year ban from taking the IELTS exam and a one-year ban from taking the Aptis ESOL exam, and denial of further review for a specified period by accreditation organizations worldwide.

In response to a question about the measures taken by the British Council to prevent cheating by having someone else take the exam on their behalf, the organization stated that it has advanced management systems to detect cheating or attempts to breach security barriers from both inside and outside the organization. In addition, testing organizations have numerous security measures in place to support candidates and protect the interests of educational institutions and schools that recognize and use the results of the IELTS and Aptis ESOL exams.

These multi-layered security measures are implemented by the British Council to enhance the security of the exams, including procedures specific to exam venues, and rigorous operational procedures and annual audits of test centres.

“We are also working closely with other agencies around the world , including immigration authorities and legal entities, to detect, prevent and take appropriate legal action against fraud or deception as defined by national laws,” the British Council emphasized.
