Hojlund's funny situation. |
The Danish striker was given a start at Stamford Bridge, just days before the Europa League final against Tottenham. However, early in the second half with the score level at 0-0, the match was interrupted when referee Chris Kavanagh saw the smartwatch on Hojlund's right wrist. He was immediately asked to remove the device.
Hojlund had to run back to the Man United technical area and hand the watch to the team staff after removing it. This situation made him laugh awkwardly, while coach Ruben Amorim was not very pleased.
The watch Hojlund wore from the first half, despite being covered by a bandage, surprised fans on social media.
One fan wrote: "Hojlund actually walked onto the pitch with an Apple Watch." Another quipped: "Just wanted to count my steps." One fan even joked: "Going to get my 10,000 step badge this weekend." Another fan asked: "Why was Hojlund allowed to wear a watch during the game?"
On the contrary, many people have criticized the striker's recent poor form: "Hojlund is more focused on the exercise index on his watch than on scoring goals". Another fan said: "Counting steps because he knows he won't score goals".
Hojlund's situation worsened when Marc Cucurella scored the decisive goal for Chelsea in the 71st minute. MU tried but could not equalize, accepting their 18th defeat in the Premier League this season.
Hojlund was largely absent throughout the match. This was the 27th match he has failed to score in the Premier League this season, with just four goals in 31 games.
