A new direction from the herbal chicken farming model.

By switching from traditional chicken farming to herbal-fed chicken farming, Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy (Dong Son ward, Quang Tri province) has built the Moc Nhien farm with a flock of healthy chickens that are less susceptible to disease and produce delicious, clean meat. Notably, by utilizing natural herbs as feed, the model has yielded high efficiency.

Visiting Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy's herbal chicken farm, viewers can easily sense the clean and orderly atmosphere of each breeding area. The rows of chicken coops are divided into distinct sections according to the chickens' different stages of development, with each section spaced apart to maintain a continuous supply. The healthy flocks of chickens, with their smooth feathers and lively movements in the spacious environment, demonstrate a systematic care process and a well-maintained breeding environment.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy, before establishing Moc Nhien Agricultural and Production Company Limited and developing the herbal chicken farming model into a farm, he had spent nearly five years raising chickens on a small scale.

At that time, he raised them using traditional methods, and his income wasn't much. However, with each passing year, he accumulated more experience in raising them, as well as experience in the business and the initial market.

Since the beginning of 2022, realizing that livestock farming needed a unique approach, utilizing readily available and inexpensive feed sources, in order to be successful and highly efficient.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy and a number of like-minded individuals boldly established Moc Nhien Agricultural and Production Company Limited to expand livestock farms and raise animals using herbal methods.

Notably, the chicken feed is prepared in a unique way with a balanced nutritional regimen. Among other things, emphasis is placed on natural herbs, using agricultural products as the main feed for the flock. Initially, the farm raised a few thousand chickens, gradually increasing the number to 10,000 and then 20,000.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy shared that the chicken feed is mixed with many ingredients such as bran, corn, and herbs. These include natural herbal ingredients such as mung beans, soybeans, fish balls, and several types of herbs including large-leaf tea, elephant grass, banana plants, *Hoang Ngoc* plant, bear bile, and *Xuyen Chi* grass… With these herbal feeds, the chickens thrive, have high resistance, and rarely experience disease outbreaks.

Currently, Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy's farm uses Ri chicken breed purchased from a reputable supplier in Hai Phong . However, along with the quality of the breed, the herbs used as feed, which the farm grows, harvests, and processes on-site, are crucial factors determining success or failure.

The herbal feed is cleaned, ground, and then mixed with agricultural by-products in appropriate proportions for each stage of the chicken's development before being fed daily.

Accordingly, the herbal feed is cleaned, ground, and then mixed with agricultural by-products in appropriate proportions for each stage of the chicken's development, to be fed daily.

“The herbal chicken farming model offers many advantages, especially in boosting natural immunity, thereby significantly reducing the use of antibiotics. We only use antibiotics in the initial short period. When the chickens are over one month old, we gradually switch to herbal feed. Natural medicinal herbs contain many active ingredients that help prevent disease and keep the flock healthy,” Mr. Sy said.

Currently, herbal-fed chickens, raised for about 5 months, reach a weight of 1.6-2 kg/bird, depending on whether it's a rooster or a hen. The selling price currently fluctuates around 80,000 VND/kg. This price is stable because the farm has control over its feed source and reduces costs. Thanks to the herbal feeding process and green fodder, the chicken meat is firm, sweet, and clean, making it very popular in the market.

After several successful breeding cycles, Moc Nhien Agricultural and Production Company Limited has expanded to include two more facilities in Dong Son ward and Nam Trach commune ( Quang Tri province).

To ensure a stable supply chain for restaurants and hotels inside and outside the province, the farm applies a staggered production model, raising chicks in batches spaced one month apart.

Currently, the farm has 6 sections, each consisting of a coop and a play area of approximately 1,200 m2. Each year, the farm sells 50,000 to 60,000 standard-quality chickens, generating revenue of about 12 billion VND and a profit margin of 20-30%. Besides generating high income, the farm also provides stable employment for 7 local workers.

Through his own efforts and creativity in finding his own path in economic development, Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy's herbal chicken farm has also received attention and guidance from the Quang Tri Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine in technical advice and disease prevention.

Representatives from the Quang Tri Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine affirmed that the use of natural herbs as feed for chickens at Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy's farm not only aligns with the trend of sustainable agricultural development but also significantly reduces the risk of antibiotic residue in livestock products. This is a positive direction aimed at protecting consumer health and developing clean livestock farming.

Currently, the Quang Tri Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine is encouraging households and farms to adopt this model, while also providing technical support, guidance on breeding processes, and biosecurity control to ensure food quality and hygiene.
