Within the broader tourism landscape of Nam Phuoc, destinations like Dong Binh, Tra Nhieu, and the old brick kilns have long been fascinating pieces, yet they have yet to achieve significant growth due to a lack of systematic investment.
For many years, to serve tourists visiting the Tra Nhieu coconut forest, a team of basket boat rowers has been established with more than 30 households participating. However, the model remains largely spontaneous. To break through, Nam Phuoc aims to establish a cooperative to coordinate the boat team, food services, and accommodation to provide a more organized service for tourists.
Mr. Vo Ngoc Thai, Head of Dong Binh village, shared that despite its rich natural resources, Dong Binh has not yet fully exploited its potential and strengths. Most tourists only come and go, not staying overnight due to the rudimentary and monotonous tourism services and products.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Lien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Phuoc commune, acknowledged that despite its advantages in landscape and culture, tourism development in Tra Nhieu and other destinations remains fragmented and spontaneous. Services such as food and beverage, accommodation, river and coconut forest tours, traditional crafts like rượu (rice wine) making, net weaving, and mat weaving, while existing, have not yet reached a systematic scale. This area lacks "cultural stories" compelling enough to attract tourists.
“ Developing ecotourism in Nam Phuoc can only be done step by step with a specific roadmap for each stage and each year; we cannot rush it. The challenge of mobilizing social resources, attracting businesses, and securing investment in ecotourism is a major one,” Ms. Lien shared.
To capitalize on local advantages, the commune will focus on exploiting scenic routes along the Thu Bon River in the coming period, promoting investment attraction in key areas such as Tra Nhieu, connecting with Dong Binh, Ban Thach, and Ha Nhuan... The overall planning of the Tra Nhieu eco-tourism village and the construction of a boat dock there to serve as a tourist reception point is a top priority, aiming to attract tourists from Cam Nam (Hoi An) traveling by waterway or road.

One of the top priorities is digital transformation, including the creation of QR codes for destinations. The locality will develop maps, exhibition halls, and a village gate in Tra Nhieu to create a focal point. The government will work together with the people to plant more trees and flowers, apply digital technology, and build exhibition points for OCOP products from Quang Nam province…
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Lien, the policy of Nam Phuoc commune is to "say no" to concrete construction and to preserve the green spaces of the countryside: hedges, tea plantations, and winding village roads.
For Tra Nhieu, the focus is on integrating the mangrove forest ecosystem with experiential activities such as rowing basket boats, casting nets, and fishing with local fishermen. Connecting traditional crafts like mat weaving, coconut leaf weaving, and basket boat making into a comprehensive tour will create a unique attraction. The local authorities recognize that every step must be taken cautiously and surely, using the trust of tourists as a measure of success in tourism development.
