Earth Hour is an initiative launched by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise public awareness about energy conservation, environmental protection, and climate change response worldwide. Officially launched in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, the annual Earth Hour campaign has grown into the world's largest environmental action, bringing together countries and territories across continents.

Every year, as part of Earth Hour, a lights-off event takes place, calling on all citizens, organizations, and agencies across the country to switch off their lights for one hour on the last Saturday evening of March. The purpose of this activity is to remind people to work together to save energy and protect the environment.

In 2009, Vietnam officially joined Earth Hour. Quang Tri province was one of the first localities to implement activities in response to this event. Since then, Quang Tri province has continuously responded to and organized Earth Hour events in a very practical and effective way. This has contributed to expanding the event's influence, and the theme of Earth Hour each year has been disseminated, aiming to encourage the participation of the community and all segments of the population.

In 2024, Quang Tri province continued to implement the Earth Hour campaign with the message: "Making electricity saving a habit" and "Reducing carbon footprint - Towards Netzero". This aims to further raise awareness and responsibility within the community regarding energy conservation and efficiency, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation, contributing to the implementation of Prime Minister 's Directive No. 20/CT-TTg dated June 8, 2023, on strengthening electricity saving during the 2023-2025 period and subsequent years.
