On April 7, 2000, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 43/2000/QD-TTg on mobilizing and encouraging voluntary blood donation, designating April 7th as the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. In Hung Yen province, thanks to the attention and involvement of the entire political system, the participation of agencies, units, businesses, and all sectors of the population, the voluntary blood donation movement has increasingly developed and spread widely throughout society.
Driven by youthful enthusiasm and a desire to contribute positively to society, Mr. Nguyen Van Hai from Lieu Xa commune (Yen My district) has donated blood and platelets 27 times. Recently, at the 2025 Spring Blood Donation Festival, he was honored with a Certificate of Commendation from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in the "Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign" emulation movement. Mr. Hai said: "After each blood donation, my health stabilizes, ensuring my work and life, thus becoming a 'living blood source' when the hospital needs blood for transfusions for patients." Understanding the value of blood donation, from 2020 to the present, Mr. Hai has mobilized more than 600 people to participate in blood donation. Currently, as the Vice Chairman of the Hung Yen Blood Donation Club, he and the management board have brought the club's activities into order, with more than 1,000 club members participating in blood and platelet donation each year. They encouraged people to donate over 300 sets of hair to cancer patients.
Mr. Dao Cong Van, who works at the Provincial Industrial Zones Management Board, has donated blood 13 times. He said: "I believe that each time we participate in blood donation, we are doing something useful for society because our blood is contributing to the lives and breaths of patients who need blood and are being saved."
The desire to have more health to continue donating blood; the happiness of sharing a drop of blood that brings life to patients is the feeling and wish not only of Mr. Hai and Mr. Van, but also of many others. Thanks to those drops of blood, many patients in need have been saved.
Ms. Tran Thi Nga, a worker at Hamaden Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Yen My), said: "A few years ago, I was sick and had to undergo surgery. During that critical moment, I received a blood transfusion and have been healthy ever since. Therefore, I understand the significance of donating blood to save lives. After that experience, I started participating in blood donation and have done so five times now."
As the permanent agency of the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation, the Provincial Red Cross Society has advised the Steering Committee on implementing many solutions to develop the movement in localities and units. These include diverse and comprehensive propaganda work through mass media, social media platforms like Zalo and Facebook, leaflets, brochures, etc., focusing on the purpose, meaning, and humanitarian value of the blood donation movement. In addition, there is a system of rewards and recognition for outstanding collectives and individuals participating in blood donation; and effective coordination in organizing the "Summer Blood Donation Campaign," the "Red Journey" program, and the "National Blood Donation Day on April 7th"...
Comrade Doan The Duong, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Blood Donation Campaign Steering Committee, said: In response to the National Blood Donation Day on April 7th this year, the Provincial Blood Donation Campaign Steering Committee has issued a plan, which includes promoting propaganda to raise awareness and encourage all sectors of the population to participate in blood donation with the message "Donate a drop of blood - Give the gift of life". The shared drops of blood carry a "mission" from our hearts to the hearts of others, making life more meaningful. Let everyone participate in "Donate a drop of blood - Give the gift of life".
