Hope to settle down soon
In early June 2025, upon hearing that the city was accepting applications for social housing at the social housing building for meritorious people on Vu Mong Nguyen Street, Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh (born in 1956, An Hai Ward) prepared documents and applications to rent an apartment.
Ms. Linh is the daughter of martyr Nguyen Hung Trang, who died during the 1968 Tet Offensive. In 2016, she unfortunately suffered a stroke, paralyzed half of her body, and had to sell the house she was living in to have money for treatment. Since then, Ms. Linh, her two sons and grandchildren have lived in a cramped rented house.
"I have moved to another rental house 8 times, just hoping that with a complete application, the city will arrange for me to rent a stable apartment to live in during my last days," Ms. Linh confided.
Mr. Tran Huu Tuyen (born in 1959, An Hai ward) also shares the same wish. Mr. Tuyen participated in the resistance war, is a war invalid with a disability rate of 25%, and was awarded the Third Class Resistance Medal.
When peace was restored, he worked at An Diem prison and was assigned to a dormitory. After retirement, he and his wife had no place to live, so his sister took them in and let them live together.
“The desire for a stable place for my wife and children is always in my mind,” Mr. Tuyen expressed.

The case of Mr. Le Minh Thanh (born in 1951, An Hai ward) is somewhat more special. Mr. Thanh participated in the anti-American war and was awarded the First Class Resistance Medal. He and his wife have two children, a boy and a girl.
More than 10 years ago, the son got married, the couple completed the procedure to give the house they were living in to their son with the hope of having someone to burn incense for them later. After the business failed, the son transferred the house to someone else without consulting the family.
Since then, the house has been transferred to many people, leading to lawsuits, pushing Mr. Thanh and his wife into a situation of "having a house but not being able to live in peace".
"Now I just hope my profile meets the requirements for the city to arrange for social housing rental, so I have a stable place to live," Mr. Thanh shared.
Symbol of gratitude
The above cases are 3 out of 92 policy households and people with revolutionary contributions who have difficulty with housing, ensuring the conditions, and were proposed by the Department of Construction to the Chairman of the City People's Committee to rent social apartments on Vu Mong Nguyen Street.

On July 25, the Housing Management and Operation Center (under the Department of Construction) organized a lottery for households to choose apartment locations in social housing areas. At the same time, it issued a notice inviting households to participate in the decision-making and house handover ceremony on July 26, commemorating the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, in accordance with the direction of the city's leaders.
Previously, at the meeting to review the arrangement of social housing for people with revolutionary contributions, Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet emphasized: "This is a meaningful and humane program of the city to honor people with revolutionary contributions on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day. Agencies and units must strive to implement it to achieve the best results."
The representative of the Department of Construction said that after completing the first phase of rental arrangements, the department will continue to review and propose the second phase of rental arrangements, based on the principle of suitability for the new subjects and locations. At the same time, calculate and re-determine the needs of people with meritorious services to adjust and propose investment plans to build social housing complexes for families of people with meritorious services in the next phase, ensuring the goal of all people with meritorious services having a standard of living equal to or higher than that of residents in the residential area.

The social housing project for people with revolutionary contributions on Vu Mong Nguyen Street will start construction at the end of 2022 and be completed at the end of March 2025. The project consists of a 12-storey building, 1 basement and a roof floor; with 209 apartments. The apartment building is equipped with an elevator, has modern architecture, synchronous infrastructure, and a total investment of 223.8 billion VND.
This is not only a construction project, but also a symbol of the city's gratitude and responsibility towards those who have dedicated themselves to the country.
