Looking towards a new life

Today, July 26th, the People's Committee of Da Nang City held a ceremony to present decisions on the allocation of social housing at the apartment complex for revolutionary veterans on Vu Mong Nguyen Street (Ngu Hanh Son Ward). This is the first apartment complex in the country specifically for revolutionary veterans, part of the project to build social housing complexes for families of revolutionary veterans facing housing difficulties in Da Nang City during the 2020-2025 period.

Looking forward to settling down soon.

In early June 2025, upon hearing that the city was accepting applications for social housing at the social housing complex for war veterans on Vu Mong Nguyen Street, Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh (born in 1956, An Hai Ward) prepared the necessary documents and application to rent an apartment.

Ms. Linh is the daughter of martyr Nguyen Hung Trang, who died during the Tet Offensive in 1968. In 2016, she unfortunately suffered a stroke, leaving her paralyzed on one side of her body, and had to sell her house to pay for treatment. Since then, Ms. Linh, along with her two sons and grandson, has been living in a cramped rented house.

"I've moved eight times already, I just hope that once my paperwork is complete, the city will arrange for me to rent a stable apartment to live in during my final days," Ms. Linh confided.

Mr. Tran Huu Tuyen (born in 1959, An Hai ward) shares the same aspiration. Mr. Tuyen participated in the resistance war, is a war invalid with a 25% disability rating, and was awarded the Third Class Resistance Medal.

After peace was restored, he worked at An Diem prison and was assigned to a communal house. After retiring, he and his wife had no place to live, so his sister took them in to live with her.

"The desire for a stable place to live for my wife and children is always on my mind," Mr. Tuyen expressed.

The case of Mr. Le Minh Thanh (born in 1951, An Hai ward) is somewhat special. Mr. Thanh participated in the resistance against the Americans and was awarded the First Class Resistance Medal. He and his wife have two children, one son and one daughter.

Over 10 years ago, when their son got married, the couple transferred ownership of their house to him, hoping that someone would carry on the family lineage after their death. However, due to business losses, their son transferred ownership of the house to someone else without consulting his family.

Since then, the house has changed hands many times, leading to lawsuits and leaving Mr. and Mrs. Thanh in a situation where they "have a house but cannot live in peace."

"Now I just hope my application is approved so the city can allocate me a social housing apartment, giving me a stable place to live," Mr. Thanh shared.

A symbol of gratitude

The above cases are 3 out of 92 policy beneficiary households and revolutionary veterans facing housing difficulties, who meet the conditions and have been proposed by the Department of Construction to the Chairman of the City People's Committee for allocation to rent social housing apartments on Vu Mong Nguyen Street.

On July 25th, the Housing Management and Exploitation Center (under the Department of Construction) organized a lottery for households to determine apartment locations in the social housing complex. Simultaneously, they issued a notice inviting households to participate in the decision-making and handover ceremony on July 26th, commemorating the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, in accordance with the city leadership's directive.

Earlier, at a meeting to review the allocation of social housing for revolutionary veterans, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the City People's Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet emphasized: "This is a meaningful and humane program of the city to express gratitude to revolutionary veterans on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs. Agencies and units must strive to implement it to achieve the best results."

A representative from the Department of Construction stated that after completing the first phase of rental arrangements, the department will continue to review and propose the second phase of rental arrangements, based on the principle of suitability for the target groups and new locations. Simultaneously, they will recalculate and reassess the needs of war veterans to adjust and propose investment plans for the construction of social housing complexes for families of revolutionary war veterans in the next phase, ensuring that all war veterans have a standard of living equal to or higher than that of the local population.

The social housing project for revolutionary veterans on Vu Mong Nguyen Street commenced construction in late 2022 and is scheduled for completion in late March 2025. The project includes a 12-story building with a basement and rooftop, comprising 209 apartments. The building features elevators, modern architecture, and integrated infrastructure, with a total investment of 223.8 billion VND.

This is not just a construction project, but also a symbol of the city's gratitude and responsibility towards those who have contributed to the country.
