Sell what customers need.

For over a month now, Mr. Nguyen Trong Tuan - Director of Hoi An DMC Tourism Company - and his colleagues have been surveying many potential locations in the outskirts and neighboring areas of Hoi An in order to develop new programs and products for 2025.

Initially, Mr. Tuan selected several locations for further research and development before putting them into operation. "Typically, the lifespan of a tourism product only lasts about 3-5 years, so we must constantly upgrade, innovate, or develop alternative products to create appeal and attract visitors, meeting the requirements of our partners when bringing tourists back," Mr. Tuan shared.

As a company specializing in serving European and Australian tourists, the first element that DMC aims for in all its products and services is the cultural values, cuisine , and ecological environment connected to the lives of the local communities, thereby stimulating curiosity and a desire to learn from tourists.

"During meetings with partners, their first question is, 'Do you have anything new?' So we always have to be ready with new products and services to introduce. Of course, we can't announce them before selling them to customers because tourism products are easily copied by other businesses," Mr. Tuan added.

This company also asserts that customer demand will determine the type of product. Therefore, the company always aims to sell products that customers need or that are new and unique, rather than selling things that are already available and that everyone knows.

Quang Nam possesses a wealth of tourism resources, especially cultural, ecological, scenic, rural, and traditional craft village values. However, due to limitations in infrastructure and services, their exploitation remains quite limited.

Mr. Le Hoang Ha, Director of Duy Nhat Hoi An Tourism and Service Company Limited, believes that with proper investment and refinement, potential resources can be transformed into suitable tourism products, offering diverse and unique experiences for visitors.

New, unique product

At the beginning of 2025, Duy Nhat Hoi An Tourism Service Co., Ltd. will organize tours for groups of tourists arriving on the SJourney train (a 5-star train with an 8-day, 7-night cross-Vietnam journey connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) to explore the villages and traditional crafts of Duy Xuyen, Dien Ban, and Hoi An by Jeep.

This is also the third tour organized by this company since last December. Starting from Tra Kieu station (Duy Xuyen), the group of tourists will experience a journey exploring the villages and traditional crafts of Quang Nam such as Van Buong, the Au Lac wood carving workshop (Go Noi, Dien Ban), Thanh Ha pottery village, visit the ancient town, take a boat trip on the Hoai River to admire the city, and release lanterns… The activities take place over 10 hours, before dropping off guests at Tra Kieu station so they can continue their cross-Vietnam journey.

Mr. Le Hoang Ha, Director of Duy Nhat Hoi An Tourism and Service Company Limited, said that the idea of organizing tours to visit rural areas for tourists had been brewing in his mind for several years. However, it wasn't until early 2024 that Mr. Ha was able to officially realize it.

"Tourists really enjoy this exploration trip because they get to travel through rural areas, admire the countryside scenery and the lives of the local people. What might be normal for us is very strange and magical for some European tourists," Mr. Ha said.

For many years, the issue of upgrading and developing new tourism products has been raised, especially as heritage destinations are becoming increasingly familiar and overcrowded. However, the results have not been as expected.

According to Mr. Tran Van Khoa, Director of Jack Tran Tours, developing new products is essential to attract customers and maintain growth momentum.

"Quang Nam still has enormous potential for tourism development, while southern localities such as Tam Ky and Nui Thanh are rich in tourism resources, from rivers and islands to rural villages, traditional crafts, and historical relics..."

However, so far we seem to have not exploited this potential, despite the favorable transportation infrastructure and geographical proximity to Hoi An and Da Nang. I plan to survey this area after the Lunar New Year to develop suitable products and services to attract tourists from Hoi An,” Mr. Khoa informed.

Representatives from Jack Tran Tours also stated that, in order to realize the goal of developing new products and services and boosting tourist growth, besides the determination of the business, the strong support of the government and the tourism industry in investing in and improving infrastructure and services will play a crucial role. In particular, upgrading and expanding the Chu Lai airport and Ky Ha seaport will be key to attracting international tour groups to the southern part of the province in the future.
