Entrance to Phong Son Cave.
Mysterious beauty amidst the rocky mountains.
From the foot of Dragon Head Mountain, visitors follow the steps to reach the entrance of Phong Son Cave. Right from the entrance, the natural scenery creates a mystical feeling with green forest-covered cliffs and white clouds drifting around the mountain slopes. Stepping through the cave entrance, another world unfolds with a vast, cool space year-round. Sparkling stalactites and stalagmites with countless fascinating shapes appear under the light, creating an atmosphere that is both magical and tranquil. This scenery further enhances the sacredness of the cave, which has long been a place where people entrust their faith, praying for national peace and prosperity, and family harmony.
Inside the cave, the system of stalactites and stalagmites boasts many unique shapes, exquisitely crafted by nature. Some formations resemble winding dragons, others are like pillars supporting the sky, and still others are like silken curtains hanging down from the cave's ceiling. Under the lights, the stalactites and stalagmites shimmer with golden and silver hues, creating a dazzling, ethereal scene like a celestial paradise.

The system of stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave is dazzling, magical, and captivating.
Local people believe that each stalactite in the cave is associated with its own story and legend. This is what creates its special appeal, making Phong Son Cave not only a natural scenic spot but also a space rich in cultural and spiritual identity.
The harmonious combination of geological values, natural landscapes, and the worship of the Mother Goddess has created a unique appeal, making Phong Son Cave a typical cultural and spiritual destination of the Muong region.
The highlight of Phong Son Cave is the main shrine dedicated to the Goddess Dieu Nghia Tang Hinh. According to folk beliefs, the Goddess is a saint who helped the people, protected their lives, ensured bountiful harvests, and brought good fortune to the people in the region.
The sacred space is solemnly arranged in the heart of the cave, where incense smoke blends with the natural beauty of the stalactites, creating a scene that is both sacred and mysterious. Every year, especially during the spring and holidays, a large number of people and tourists from all over come to offer incense, praying for health, peace, bountiful harvests, and harmonious lives.
The imprint of the religious belief in worshipping the Goddess of Hidden Meaning
According to folklore, the Invisible Goddess Diệu Nghĩa was the daughter of King Hùng. From a young age, she was renowned for her intelligence, resourcefulness, and understanding of governance and the welfare of the people. Recognizing her exceptional talent, King Hùng entrusted her with organizing military supplies and provisions for military campaigns and border defenses. Through her resourcefulness, meticulousness, and foresight, she effectively mobilized food and material resources, making a significant contribution to the victories in battles and ensuring a stable life for the people.

Phong Son Cave is the main shrine dedicated to the Goddess Dieu Nghia Tang Hinh.
Besides her strategic skills and her role in managing military supplies and provisions for King Hung, Lady Dieu Nghia Tang Hinh was also skilled in medicine, knowledgeable about medicinal plants in the mountains and forests, and adept at divination, predicting good and bad fortune. She often went into the forest to find medicinal herbs to treat illnesses and help the poor. She also used her knowledge of astronomy and seasonal calendars to guide the villagers in choosing planting times, avoiding natural disasters and epidemics. Because of these contributions, the people respectfully called her "Lady of Healing," a symbol of compassion, protection, and the ability to save sentient beings.
After her passing, she was revered by the people as the Third Ancestor of the Muong people, also known by the titles of the Hidden Goddess of the Mountain Village or the Princess of the Que Hoa Zen Master. In the Mother Goddess worship tradition, she is one of the Three Goddesses of the Muong people, and is also considered one of the three incarnations of the Mother Goddess of the Mountains at Son Trang Cave. Her image symbolizes wisdom, compassion, self-sacrifice, and protection for the lives of the mountain dwellers, and is therefore respectfully worshipped by the Muong people and visitors from all over for generations.
Potential for developing cultural and spiritual tourism .
Nestled amidst the majestic mountains of the Dragon Head mountain range, along with Dong Son Temple and Bong Lai Temple, Phong Son Cave retains its inherent mystical beauty. This place is not only a destination to admire the masterpieces bestowed by nature, but also a cultural and spiritual site where visitors can find peace and tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life.
Stopping before the main shrine of the Goddess of Hidden Compassion, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, a tourist from Hanoi , respectfully lit an incense stick and slowly shared: "I've heard many people recommend Phong Son Cave, but this is my first time visiting. The space inside the cave is very sacred, cool, and peaceful. When I learned about the Goddess of Hidden Compassion – the saint revered by the people as 'Goddess of Healing' – I felt even more strongly the cultural and religious values left by our ancestors. This trip was not only a sightseeing journey but also helped me better understand and appreciate the cultural identity of the Muong region."

Deep inside the cave is a shrine dedicated to the Three Lords of Muong.
Not only famous for its spiritual value, Phong Son Cave is also an important part of the Dragon Head Mountain cave complex – a unique natural scenic spot. With its pristine cave system, majestic limestone landscape, and distinctive historical, cultural, and religious values, in 2012, Phong Son Cave and the Dragon Head Mountain scenic complex were classified as a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Visiting Phong Son Cave, each person not only gets to admire the mystical beauty of nature but also has the opportunity to learn about the unique values of the Mother Goddess worship belief, and feel the cultural depth of the Muong region – where nature, history, and spirituality blend together in a space full of legends.
