According to PhoneArena , iOS 17.1.2 was released shortly after Apple provided iOS 17.1.1 to address an issue that caused NFC on iPhone 15 series models to malfunction when charging using wireless charging systems on BMW and Toyota Supra vehicles. Without NFC, the affected iPhones would be unable to use Apple Pay, and some received an error message stating that Apple Pay could not be set up on their device.
iOS 17.1.2 will be released next week.
Affected devices are required to use Apple Service Toolkit 2 software to restore the NFC chip; however, some users were informed that their iPhones would need to be opened for repair or replacement of certain hardware components. This prompted BMW to issue a warning to iPhone 15 series users not to use wireless chargers in their vehicles until Apple fixes the issue.
The iOS 17.1.2 update may be released next week because Apple traditionally doesn't release any new software builds during Thanksgiving week in the US, as many Apple employees are off work that week. Last year, a similar situation occurred with iOS 16.1.2, which was only officially released on November 30th.
For iOS 17.2, Apple has now released beta updates, with the final version expected in mid-December. This update adds support for spatial video recording to iPhone 15 Pro models, which can be viewed with Vision Pro VR headsets after their release. A new Journal feature will be available along with new Clock and Weather widgets, and there will be an option to allow iPhone 15 Pro users to open the Translate app by pressing and holding the Action button on the phone screen.
