Apple has just released iOS 26 beta 9 to developers, marking the latest testing phase before the official version is released in about two weeks. This shows that the development of iOS 26 has not stopped, in contrast to recent years when Apple usually only released a maximum of eight betas.
iOS 26 brings many big changes
According to Apple, iOS 26 “brings a beautiful new design, powerful Apple Intelligence capabilities, more modern ways to connect in Phone and Messages, and exciting updates to CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, and Wallet.”
During the testing process, iOS 26 received many tweaks:
Beta 2 improves readability in Control Center, reorganizes Safari menus, and adds new accessibility options.
Beta 3 adds a translucent effect to the tab bar and introduces new wallpapers.
Beta 4 brings back notification summaries for news and entertainment apps.
Beta 5 addresses user feedback by restoring the Select button in Mail and customizing the swipe direction of the classic Camera.
Beta 6 introduces new ringtones, faster animation effects.
Beta 7 adds drafts in Messages.
Beta 9 is now considered the final tweaked version, and could be equivalent to iOS 26 public beta 6 in the near future.
Which devices support iOS 26?
iOS 26 will run on iPhone SE (2nd generation) and iPhone 11 models and later. Meanwhile, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max stop at iOS 18, unable to upgrade to iOS 26.
In particular, features related to Apple Intelligence require more powerful hardware, which is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the entire iPhone 16 series. Users of older iPhone models will still receive security updates, but will not be able to fully experience the new features.
With many improvements in design, experience and especially Apple Intelligence, iOS 26 promises to bring big changes to iPhone users. The official release is expected to appear at Apple's event in mid-September 2025.
