According to a source from the tech leaker Ice Universe on the social media platform Weibo, the next-generation flagship iPhone 18 Pro Max will have an exact thickness of 8.75 mm, the same as its predecessor.
If this information is accurate, Apple will continue to maintain its familiar design philosophy of recent years: optimizing internal configuration and performance rather than drastically changing the appearance. This also suggests that users shouldn't expect a major "overhaul" of the traditional iPhone line this year.

However, observers believe this rumor should still be taken with caution. Back in March, Ice Universe himself claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro Max could be significantly thicker due to hardware changes. The device was even rumored to potentially become the heaviest iPhone ever.
The appearance of two contradictory pieces of information from the same source leaves the accuracy of the predictions questionable. However, the general trend from recent reports suggests that Apple is more likely to make evolutionary rather than revolutionary upgrades to the iPhone 18 Pro Max line.
Focusing resources on a foldable iPhone Ultra?
According to Ice Universe, the reason the iPhone 18 Pro Max doesn't have many changes is that Apple is focusing most of its research and development resources on the first foldable iPhone, often referred to in the tech world as the iPhone Ultra.

For months, this device has consistently dominated global technology forums. Numerous prototypes, renders, and specifications have been leaked, generating far more attention than the traditional iPhone 18 Pro series.
If current information is accurate, the iPhone Ultra will use a liquid metal hinge, increasing durability and reducing degradation over time. The device is expected to come in two main colors: black and white.
More notably, many industry sources suggest that Apple has made significant progress in addressing the issue of screen creases. The device may feature a flexible display that shows virtually no creases when unfolded, along with a self-healing coating to minimize minor scratches.
There are still a number of notable upgrades on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Although the design is said to remain largely unchanged, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is still expected to bring a host of valuable hardware upgrades.
One of the biggest highlights is the A20 Pro processor, manufactured using the new 2nm process. This is considered a significant step forward, improving processing performance while reducing power consumption compared to previous generations.
A new generation LTPO+ display is also rumored to be coming, offering better battery life and higher display quality. Additionally, Apple may equip the main camera with a variable aperture mechanism for the first time, allowing the device to automatically adjust the amount of light entering the sensor depending on ambient conditions.

In terms of color, the dark cherry version is said to be the new signature color for the Pro line this year. Additionally, Apple may bring back the blue color to the product lineup.
Another upgrade that users are particularly interested in is battery life. Leak expert Digital Chat Station says the iPhone 18 Pro Max could have a battery of 5,100 to 5,200 mAh, higher than the 5,088 mAh in the eSIM version of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Larger battery capacity combined with a 2nm chip promises superior battery life, especially in AI tasks that are becoming increasingly resource-intensive.
In addition to traditional hardware, Apple is also expected to continue pushing its artificial intelligence strategy on the iPhone 18 Pro Max .
The device is expected to run iOS 27 out of the box, along with a significantly upgraded version of Siri and a more complete Apple Intelligence ecosystem than currently exists. A new feature called "Extensions" is also reportedly under development to expand the interaction capabilities between AI and third-party applications.
In terms of connectivity, Apple will most likely equip the device with its next-generation, self-developed C2 modem. Besides improving network speed and energy efficiency, this modem is also said to incorporate additional layers of privacy protection for users.
Dynamic Island can be further miniaturized, optimizing the display area. Fast charging speeds have also been increased to approximately 40W, significantly reducing charging time.
In terms of storage, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is predicted to have storage options up to 2TB, meeting the needs for high-resolution video recording and local AI processing on the device.
Is the iPhone 18 Pro Max still appealing in the face of the iPhone Ultra's arrival?
According to current sources, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will continue to maintain a starting price of around $1,199, similar to the previous generation. Meanwhile, the foldable iPhone Ultra is predicted to cost approximately $2,000.
The nearly $800 price difference between the two devices is significant. In fact, that difference is almost enough to buy another standard iPhone. Therefore, even though the iPhone Ultra will be the focus of media attention upon its release, the iPhone 18 Pro Max still has a good chance of maintaining strong sales thanks to its balance between performance, features, and price.
