In a recent post, Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman confirmed that a foldable iPhone will still launch on schedule alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The event is expected to take place in September, and the product will be released the following week.
According to this expert, a foldable iPhone will bring about "the biggest change in iPhone history," and high expectations are placed on the device.
"This will be the biggest change in iPhone history, and also the first major design update. The iPhone 4, iPhone 6, and iPhone X played an important role, but this will be a completely new design, although it will essentially borrow from models that competitors have released over the years," Gurman emphasized.
In addition to launching a new foldable device, Gurman revealed that Apple is changing its annual iPhone launch schedule.
According to Bloomberg , the next budget iPhone model will be delayed until spring 2027. Apple also plans to launch a new iPhone Air and a more affordable iPhone 18e around that time.
While affirming that the foldable iPhone will be released on time, Gurman also expressed concern about the slow pace of production. Previously, according to Nikkei , testing of the foldable iPhone is facing some obstacles. This could lead to delays in production and delivery schedules.
Some component suppliers have even been notified of potential delays in the production of foldable iPhones. Currently, Apple and its partners are still working to resolve the issue. Delaying the launch date could jeopardize the company's marketing plans.
"It's true that more problems have arisen than expected during the initial trial production phase, and more time will be needed to address and adjust them," a source close to the matter said.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities, the iPhone Fold will feature a 5.3-inch outer screen and a 7.7-inch inner screen. The size of the inner screen could be approximately the same as the iPad mini, while the outer screen will be comparable to a smaller iPhone.
Apple plans to use a 4:3 aspect ratio for the inner screen, meaning the iPhone Fold will have a shape similar to an iPad when unfolded, being longer and wider but narrower than most foldable smartphones currently available.
The iPhone Fold is expected to be 4.5 mm thin when unfolded. To achieve this, Apple is said to have to compromise on some features. The device will not have a telephoto camera, will remove Face ID in favor of Touch ID, and integrate it into the power button like the iPad.
Initially, foldable iPhones were rumored to use "nearly crease-free" screen technology. However, according to the latest information, Apple will apply technology that helps "reduce the crease" rather than eliminate it completely.
Based on rumors, Apple will refine iOS 27 to optimize it for foldable iPhones, adding an iPad-style app layout and a dual-app view. This will improve multitasking capabilities, taking advantage of the larger screen size.
