Iran reopens part of its airspace.

(CLO) Iran's Civil Aviation Authority announced on April 18 that the country has partially reopened its airspace, allowing international flights to transit through the eastern region.

According to the announcement, "air routes in the eastern part of Iranian airspace remain open for international flights," adding that some airports resumed operations from 7:00 local time on April 18 (10:30 AM on April 18 Vietnam time).

However, data from flight tracking websites shows that, more than three hours after the announcement, no international flights had been recorded passing through Iranian airspace. Many airlines still chose to adjust their routes, flying around the area instead of through Iranian territory.

The previous day, Iran announced it would fully open the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels during the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

However, today, April 18, Iran announced it will resume "strict control" of the Strait of Hormuz, reversing its earlier decision to ease restrictions as part of negotiations with the United States.

Iranian Central Command spokesman Khatam al-Anbia said the country's armed forces have restored control of the Strait of Hormuz to its previous "strict" state.

Iran's reason is that the US continues to block ships from entering and leaving Iranian ports, as well as blockading the seas surrounding its territory.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the US blockade was a "violation of the two-week ceasefire" between the two sides, and warned Tehran would respond appropriately.
