The attack occurred Sunday night, following days of bombing and ground operations in southern Lebanon by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), including intense airstrikes on the capital Beirut. The Israeli offensive continued despite a ceasefire announced more than six weeks ago, with attacks escalating over the past week. Tehran has repeatedly demanded that West Jerusalem cease its attacks, and has conditioned negotiations with the US on an effective ceasefire in Lebanon.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they had identified multiple incoming flying objects and activated air defenses in several locations. Videos circulating online allegedly show Iranian missiles flying over eastern Lebanon, while other flying objects were observed from the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Iran declared that the attack was merely a "warning" to Israel and that there would be further "heavy blows" if the country continued its attacks on Lebanon.

"If they expand their attacks in that area or retaliate against Iran's actions, they will suffer even more severe and regrettable blows, and devastating attacks will be launched against the regime and its supporters," Iran's Khatim Al-Anbiya operational headquarters said in a statement published by local media.

Numerous media outlets reported that Israel hastily retaliated for the attack, with some news outlets suggesting that it sought the green light from the US to attack Iranian energy facilities. Although no official response has been issued, several high-ranking Israeli officials have vowed revenge for the attacks.

US President Donald Trump called for restraint from both sides, telling Fox News that Israel's attacks on Beirut were not coordinated with Washington. He also urged Tehran to stop and return to negotiations to reach a "deal."

Axios reporter Barak Ravid said on Channel X that Trump told him he was calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "right now and telling him not to attack Iran in retaliation."
