On June 11, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in a Telegram post: "Effective immediately, due to the unstable security situation in the region, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships. Any vessel attempting to pass through the strait will be targeted."
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) immediately rejected Iran's claim, stating that commercial shipping continues to transit the Strait of Hormuz – a claim denied by the RGC.

Earlier, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported that two ships attempting to "illegally pass through the Strait of Hormuz" had been attacked.
Similarly, Iran's IRNA news agency reported a "confrontation" between IRGC naval units and US forces in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC's "strong resistance and firepower" shocked the US forces. However, CENTCOM stated that no US warships were hit.
According to JPMorgan, this vital waterway has been congested for months due to conflict, with shipping traffic reduced to only about 15% of pre-conflict levels.
Since the conflict began, Iran has threatened to attack any ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz without the permission of the IRGC. Last month, it issued new regulations for ships wishing to pass through the area.
In the latest development, the US attack on Iran injured two civilians in the city of Kargan, in Iran's Hormozgan province. Both were wounded by shrapnel and were taken to a hospital in Minab for treatment.
Currently, the Qatari delegation is in Tehran to meet with Iranian negotiators and remains in the country as the US launches a new round of attacks against Iran.
The Islamic Republic of Iran's official broadcaster (IRIB) reported that the visit included discussions on bilateral relations as well as an exchange of views on the latest developments in what they described as a diplomatic process aimed at ending the "US-imposed war" against Iran.
