In the first nine months of 2023, Italy's total electricity production capacity from renewable energy sources reached 3.1 gigawatts (GW), a record high compared to the same period in previous years.
Italy's renewable energy development supervisory agency stated that the total electricity generated from renewable sources during the aforementioned period was sufficient to supply approximately 2.5 million households for a year. This represents a 57% increase compared to the same period last year.
As of the end of September, the total electricity generated from renewable energy sources in Italy had also increased to 63.8GW, accounting for approximately 37% of the Mediterranean nation's total energy demand.
