Thailand are the most successful Southeast Asian team at the 2023 Asian Cup, remaining unbeaten and keeping their first clean sheet after the group stage. They finished second in Group F after beating Kyrgyzstan 2-0 and drawing with Oman and Saudi Arabia with the same score of 0-0. Only Qatar has the same record of not conceding a goal in the group stage as Thailand.

Uzbekistan also went through the group stage unbeaten and finished second. They were held to a 0-0 draw by Syria in their opening match, before beating India 3-0. In their final match, Uzbekistan drew 1-1 with Group B's strongest team, Australia.
Uzbekistan's football is not among the top in Asia, but it has been rated higher than Thailand's for many years. Srecko Katanec's students are fast, skillful and disciplined. Uzbekistan is on a 10-match unbeaten streak in the past four months.
In terms of squad, Thailand welcomed the return of captain Theerathon Bunmathan after a suspension. On the other side of the front line, Uzbekistan also has the strongest squad.
