UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said that the sanctions imposed in recent times have caused Cuba to face numerous economic and social difficulties.
According to the agency, fuel supply constraints have led to prolonged power outages, while additional measures targeting transport, insurance, and trade businesses continue to increase pressure on the Caribbean island nation's economy.
The United Nations also cited figures showing a sharp decline in food production, soaring food prices, and a worsening trend in several public health indicators.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that the current sanctions are inconsistent with the fundamental principles of international human rights law and called on the United States to consider lifting these restrictions.
