Khabib unexpectedly sent positive advice to old rival McGregor. |
At an event in New York (USA) last weekend, Khabib, a Muslim, frankly shared: “This is punishment. But the most beautiful thing is that Allah always gives people a chance to turn back. I think Conor still has a chance. He needs to change his lifestyle.”
“Why do I say this? Because if Conor changes, he can change many others. If he doesn’t, his life will forever be a punishment,” he continued.
Khabib, 36, knocked out McGregor at UFC 229 in 2018. The post-fight brawl, when Khabib jumped out of the octagon to continue clashing with McGregor's team, went down in history as one of the most chaotic moments in MMA.
In 2020, Khabib retired with an undefeated record of 29-0. In contrast, McGregor has won only 1 of his 4 UFC matches since losing to Khabib. The Irishman has also been embroiled in a series of legal scandals, most recently a lawsuit related to sexual assault allegations in 2024.
After breaking his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021, the "madman" has not entered the ring again.
Khabib's comments mark a shift in his views. In 2019, he shared: "It will never end between us - if we meet, we will definitely fight, even if it means going to jail."
On August 1, McGregor, at the age of 37, returned to the UFC's doping testing program, paving the way for a possible comeback in the near future.
