Following the provincial merger, there were concerns about the growth of tourists at Ba Be Lake tourist area, as the area is now further from the provincial center than before. However, during the recent holiday, the number of visitors to this tourist area still showed good growth.
At guesthouses and homestays in the Ba Be Lake area, rooms were fully booked in advance. At times, the large number of vehicles even caused localized traffic congestion at several points on the roads surrounding the lake.
Ms. Trieu Kim Xuyen, owner of Suoi Mo guesthouse, said that the number of tourists visiting Ba Be Lake is very high; most homestays in the lakeside area are fully booked. On peak days, there is even a shortage of boats to take tourists sightseeing on the lake.
According to Hoang Ngoc Tham, Director of the Ba Be Tourist Area Management Board, in order to better serve the sightseeing and relaxation needs of tourists, tourist attractions, accommodation establishments, and tourism service businesses in the Ba Be Lake area have proactively prepared the necessary conditions; and strengthened measures to ensure security and safety for tourists.
According to a report by the Thai Nguyen Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, during the four-day holiday (from April 30th to May 3rd, 2026), the total number of tourists visiting Thai Nguyen is estimated at 315,000, an increase of 57.42% compared to the same period in 2025 (2025 reached 200,100). Revenue from tourism activities is estimated at 210 billion VND, an increase of 64% compared to the same period last year.
The tourism growth of Thai Nguyen, in addition to the preferences and choices of tourists, also stems from the province's efforts in promoting, introducing, and connecting tourism in recent times.
Thai Nguyen has made thorough and meticulous preparations for the 2026 tourism season through infrastructure improvements, upgraded connecting routes, standardized accommodation and food services, and well-trained human resources. The province has 785 tourist accommodation establishments, including 10 three-star hotels and two two-star hotels; and more than 4,700 restaurants and food service establishments.
From the beginning of 2026 until before the holiday season, with the tourism theme being "Lake on the Mountain - Tea in the Clouds," the province will organize a series of events such as: a seminar associated with the "Morning Tea with Businessmen" program on the theme "Green Agriculture and the Development Orientation of Tourism in Thai Nguyen Province"; the 2026 Thai Nguyen Expanded Jet Ski Show at Nui Coc Lake; the art program "Heritage Resounds Amidst the Vast Forests of Ba Be"; the "Footprints on the Emerald Lakes" running race; the National Circus Gala; and a video clip creation contest promoting Thai Nguyen tourism with the theme "Journey to Discover Thai Nguyen"...
During the holiday, the province organized art performances and low-altitude fireworks displays at Bac Kan Ward Square, Vo Nguyen Giap Square (Phan Dinh Phung Ward), and Van Xuan Ward Square; and a photo exhibition with the theme "Achievements in the development of culture, sports, and tourism in Thai Nguyen Province"...
During the holiday period, the Smart Tourism Portal, the Thai Nguyen Tourism Website, and social media channels attracted over 78,600 visits, accesses, and content views, contributing to helping tourists find information about destinations and tourism services in the province.
These results further affirm the value and attractiveness of Thai Nguyen tourism, serving as a foundation and driving force for the locality to make tourism a key economic sector, striving to welcome at least 12 million tourists by 2030; with total tourism revenue exceeding 25,000 billion VND per year.
