With global AI infrastructure increasingly reliant on advanced memory chips, development companies are ramping up investment and seeking stable supply sources. In 2025, Google became one of Samsung's top five customers for the first time.
Alphabet, Google's parent company, makes its first appearance on this annual list. The business report, released on March 10th, also includes Apple, Deutsche Telekom, Techtronic Industries (Hong Kong), and Supreme. In total, these five companies account for 15% of Samsung's revenue in 2025, reaching 333.6 trillion won (approximately $228 billion ).
The report did not specify the products being supplied. However, observers believe these orders most likely relate to Samsung's memory chips for AI data centers, including HBM and DDR5 SDRAM, which support Google's TPU chips.
Alphabet has likely become a key customer amid soaring demand for server memory chips. Major US tech companies are accelerating their investments in AI infrastructure.
In the future, many similar tech companies could appear on Samsung's list of major clients as spending on AI data centers continues to increase. Major US companies like Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta are expected to spend around $650 billion this year building AI data centers.
This trend is expected to continue driving demand for high-performance memory. In an earnings call in January, Kim Jae-june, vice president of Samsung's memory business, stated that demand for memory from AI-related hyperscalers in the US and China had surged.
“In the near future, supply is expected to remain significantly constrained compared to demand for memory products, including HBM, DRAM, and NAND,” he said. He also stated that the company’s entire HBM capacity for 2026 is already booked and HBM revenue is expected to more than triple year-on-year.
"Major customers have expressed their desire to finalize supply agreements for product volumes in 2027 and beyond as soon as possible," Mr. Kim said.
The AI memory chip market is currently dominated by three major manufacturers: Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. SK Hynix leads the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) segment by supplying Nvidia's AI GPUs, while Micron is also aggressively expanding its capacity to meet the demands of AI data centers.
