Opening Ceremony of the Lam Kinh Festival 2025

On October 13th (August 22nd according to the lunar calendar), the Lam Kinh Festival 2025 will take place at the Dragon Courtyard, Lam Kinh National Special Historical Site (Lam Son commune, Thanh Hoa province).

The festival is an occasion to commemorate the contributions of national hero Le Loi and the ancestors of the Later Le Dynasty, while also promoting the image of Thanh Hoa's land and people to tourists from within and outside the province.

In a solemn atmosphere, the ceremony began with a traditional palanquin procession, followed by the offering of incense to pay respects to Emperor Le Thai To and the reading of a eulogy commemorating the contributions of King Le Thai To and the generals and soldiers of the Lam Son army.

Following the ceremony was the festival with the meticulously staged art program "The Spirit of Lam Son - Shining Forever." The program, comprising three parts – "The Spirit of Lam Son - Heroes Gathering," "Binh Dinh King's Coronation as Emperor," and "Following in the Footsteps of Our Ancestors - Thanh Hoa on the Path of Renewal and Development" – recreated the great achievements and accomplishments of the national hero Le Loi and his generals, the heroic atmosphere of the Lam Son Uprising over 600 years ago, bringing a sense of heroism, sacredness, and pride to the glorious history of the nation...

Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Dau Thanh Tung, affirmed that the Lam Kinh Festival is an important cultural event, expressing gratitude and honoring the contributions and sacrifices of national hero Le Loi, the generals, soldiers, and people of the whole country in the cause of nation-building and national defense. Building on the spirit of Lam Son, on the eve of the 20th Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups are determined to unite, uphold the tradition of patriotism and revolution, and build Thanh Hoa into one of the leading provinces in the country.

Sixty-seven years ago, in the spring of 1418, in the Lam Son mountain range, now part of Lam Son commune (formerly Tho Xuan district), Le Loi and many other heroes raised the banner of rebellion, issuing a proclamation to recruit heroes from all directions and calling on the people to drive out the invading Ming forces. After ten long years of hardship and struggle, with unwavering courage and military strategy of "using weakness against strength, using few against many," the Lam Son rebellion achieved complete victory in 1428. Following the restoration of peace, in 1428, Le Loi ascended the throne as Emperor, adopting the reign name Thuan Thien, restoring the national name Dai Viet, and establishing the Later Le Dynasty, which lasted for over 360 years. Lam Son became a place of ancestral worship and the resting place of emperors and empresses. Alongside Dong Kinh - the political , economic, and cultural center of the country during the Later Le Dynasty - Lam Kinh, also known as Tay Kinh (now the Lam Kinh Special National Historical Site), has become a sacred land, where each person turns towards their roots with reverence, admiration, and gratitude to their ancestors.

With its immense historical value, Lam Kinh was classified as a National Historical Monument in 1962. In 2012, it was further recognized as a Special National Monument by Decision No. 1419/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister . Over the years, significant investment has been allocated to the Lam Kinh site for conservation and preservation. Recently, at the end of July 2025, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province approved a project to restore and renovate several important items within the Lam Kinh Special National Monument area, such as the reconstruction of the four Thai Mieu buildings (numbers 1, 2, 8, and 9), the renovation of the Hang Dau temple, and the construction of the entrance gate to the monument area… with a total budget of over 81 billion VND and implementation in the period 2025-2027.

For over six centuries, Lam Kinh – a symbol of national pride representing a glorious period of resistance against foreign invaders and the nation-building of Dai Viet – has retained its historical, cultural, and architectural value, which is preserved, honored, and maintained. Among these values, the Lam Kinh Festival is a cherished tradition, expressing the gratitude of today's generation to their ancestors who fought against foreign invaders and built their homeland.
