Late in the afternoon in Po Lan village, Quoc Viet commune, Lang Son province, Mrs. Mong Thi Vuong stands in front of her house, gazing at the solar-powered streetlights recently installed along the inter-village road. At 60 years old, this Nung ethnic woman is accustomed to closing her doors early at night. The road through the village is winding, with many sections hidden behind orchards. On rainy days, people have to cautiously make their way. Therefore, since the project was completed, many villagers have maintained the habit of walking out to admire the lights every evening. For them, the light not only transformed a road but also changed the rhythm of life for the entire village.

"Before, when children came home late from extra classes, their parents had to go pick them up with flashlights. Even the elderly felt embarrassed to visit their neighbors. Now that the streets are well-lit, everyone is happy. My house has a mango tree next to the lamppost; the village head suggested trimming the branches so it wouldn't block the light, but I told him we could just cut it down if necessary," Mrs. Vuong said with a smile.

The people of Pò Lạn are delighted by the recently completed "Lighting Up the Countryside" solar power project, costing over 100 million VND. The 1.2km stretch of road is equipped with solar-powered streetlights, implemented by the Lang Son Power Company (part of the Northern Power Corporation - EVNNPC) through a collaboration with the Youth Union of Vietnam Television. The value of the project lies not in the length of the road or the number of lights installed, but in the concrete changes it brings to daily life. Children returning home late from school are less worried, the elderly can travel more easily, and villagers can spend more time chatting after dinner.

Mr. Vu Khanh Toan, Deputy Director of Lang Son Power Company, said that during a survey of the area, the unit realized that the people's need for lighting was very high. "An illuminated road may not be a large project, but it directly impacts the lives of the people. We hope that the people will truly benefit from this project for many years to come. Besides ensuring a safe and stable electricity supply for production and daily life, the Northern Power Sector always wants to make more practical contributions to the community, especially in remote, mountainous, and border areas that still face many difficulties ."

To complete the road before the rainy season, engineers and power workers worked continuously for many days in scorching hot weather. Solar panels and technical equipment were transported along narrow roads leading into the village. For Hoang Manh Cuong, a power grid operation and maintenance worker of Lang Son Power Company, what remains after the project is not the days spent climbing poles in the hot sun, but the affection of the people for the construction team.

"There were days when the sun was scorching hot, and we worked in the field from morning till evening. Seeing this, the locals would bring tea, herbal drinks, and sometimes even freshly boiled corn to encourage us. These simple things truly touched us. The electrical job is hard, especially for those who work in the field frequently. But seeing the people happy when the project is completed makes us feel that all our efforts are worthwhile. Trips like these make me love the profession I've chosen even more," Cường shared.

According to Mr. Nong Dinh Cong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Quoc Viet commune, many roads in the locality still lack lighting systems. Therefore, the project in Po Lan not only contributes to saving electricity through the use of renewable energy but also has great encouraging significance for people in the border region. "This is a practical project for a particularly difficult border commune like Quoc Viet. The people are very happy to have another illuminated road, making travel safer and more convenient."

To accomplish this project, numerous delegations directly surveyed the area and understood the real needs of the people. Nguyen Hoai Dam, Secretary of the Youth Union of Vietnam Television, said that what the delegation remembered most was the moment the first lights were switched on. "There were elderly people who shook our hands to thank us. There were children running back and forth under the new lights with delight. These images made everyone feel that connecting with social resources was truly meaningful. We hope that each trip will not only be about giving gifts but will also leave behind projects that can serve the people for many years to come."

During this trip to Lang Son, VTV's youth, in coordination with the Vietnamese Heart Foundation, donated 30 bicycles to disadvantaged students in Quoc Viet and Khang Chien communes. For many students in mountainous areas, the distance to school is several kilometers, so having a bicycle means fewer early morning walks, more time for studying, and a reduction in the burden on their families. These gifts, while not of great material value, are a practical encouragement for the students to continue striving in their studies.

As the delegation departed from Lang Son, the solar-powered streetlights in Po Lan continued to shine brightly every evening. The new bicycles will accompany the students to school for many more seasons. Perhaps these are just small projects, small contributions among the many social welfare programs being implemented nationwide. But in a border village, the light on the new road and the joy of the children on the day they received their bicycles are enough to show that sharing always begins with the simplest things.

On June 3rd, in That Khe commune (Lang Son province), the Lang Son Provincial Youth Union, in coordination with the Youth Union of the Central Party agencies, organized the launching ceremony of the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign and responded to the Action Month for Children in 2026.

During the program, the Youth Union of Vietnam Television collaborated with the Vietnamese Heart Foundation to donate 30 bicycles to disadvantaged students; and also connected with Lang Son Power Company (Northern Power Corporation) to implement the "Lighting Up Rural Roads" solar power project in Po Lan village, Quoc Viet commune. The total value of these activities reached approximately 150 million VND.
