When Gen Z chooses a career

Many young people choose to work as part-time domestic helpers because of the reasonable income and the opportunity to gain skills and life experience.

Nguyen Thi Be Thi (21 years old, from Can Tho ) used to work in screen printing, selling clothes, and doing various odd jobs. When her child turned 5 months old, Thi switched to doing hourly house cleaning through an app.

Flexible

The development of apps specializing in household services is very helpful for people like Thi. With just a few simple steps, those in need of help and those seeking domestic assistance can easily connect. To work on the app, domestic helpers must undergo basic training in both technical skills and soft skills such as communication and risk prevention. This not only contributes to ensuring service quality but also protects the safety and rights of domestic helpers. Thi realizes that cleaning, laundry, cooking, and childcare cannot be done simply by feeling or habit. Everything must be done according to proper procedures, and positive customer feedback is her joy. Every morning, after dropping her child off at daycare, Thi begins her first shift and finishes around 5 PM.

Nguyen Ha Hong Phuong believes that hourly domestic work is a legitimate occupation, suitable for the needs of many people in modern society.

If there's someone to look after her child, she's willing to take on extra evening cleaning jobs. Each cleaning shift lasts 2 hours, sometimes up to 4 hours for larger apartments. From a shy girl, Thi has become confident in chatting with clients. Thi always refuses requests from homeowners who don't use the app, because accepting orders through the system ensures her rights and reputation. The money she earns is enough for her living expenses and childcare. Overcoming the stereotype that domestic helpers are usually older people with limited options for making a living, Thi believes that young people can still do this job well. "Choosing a job that suits your circumstances and doing it well is also valuable. This job also gives Gen Z an opportunity to learn and advance," Thi shared.

Develop skills, improve your life.

Nguyen Ha Hong Phuong (27 years old, from Nha Trang) is a "warrior bee" on the bTaskee app, handling thousands of orders every month and earning the title of "Professional Family Assistant".

Instead of trying to find an office job or a factory worker after being unemployed, Phuong chose to work as a part-time cleaner in Ho Chi Minh City for two years after the COVID-19 pandemic. Even after returning to her hometown, she continued this work. Phuong is proficient in many tasks, including cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, caring for the elderly, and general cleaning.

Lieu Kim Chau always consciously maintains her professional demeanor, adheres to the guidance and systematic training she receives while working as a part-time housekeeper.

Nha Trang attracts many tourists, and over 40% of Phuong's customers are foreigners. This has given her the opportunity to improve her English and her ability to understand customer psychology. During peak tourist months or holidays, Phuong can earn double her income. Not only does this ease the financial burden on her family, but it has also allowed her to obtain a driver's license and acquire new skills from this job. In the beginning, Phuong was hesitant about how to clean efficiently and even arrived late. But gradually, she overcame her shortcomings, becoming more disciplined, controlling her spending, and taking responsibility for even the smallest tasks.

Lieu Kim Chau (residing in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) has stabilized her life thanks to working as a domestic helper. All processes, from receiving jobs and communicating with clients to providing feedback on service quality, are done through an app. The transparency and professionalism make her feel secure while working. Chau's income ranges from 10-13 million VND per month, sometimes reaching 16-20 million VND during Tet (Lunar New Year). Most of Chau's clients are young, tech-savvy, proactively book appointments in advance, and have a relaxed and clear communication style. With elderly or demanding clients, Chau always knows how to communicate appropriately, clean according to proper procedures, and maintain the hygiene of her tools. "Some clients talk to me while observing the entire cleaning process, so I need to concentrate intensely. The more professional and honest I am, the more satisfied they are," Chau shared. Many young people around Chau, including students, work as hourly domestic helpers. They are not just service providers; they want to highlight the positive aspects of the profession through integrity, professionalism, and a desire to improve their lives.
