Sharing the same ideal, remaining dedicated to the profession.
Thirty years after their marriage, Dr. Le Hoang Dung, Vice President of the Provincial Traditional Medicine Association, and Dr. Tran Thi Hanh, Head of the General Planning and Information Technology Department at Tay Ninh Traditional Medicine Hospital, still maintain the same belief they had when they chose the medical profession. With 31 years of service for Dr. Dung and 28 years dedicated to the profession for Dr. Hanh, traditional medicine is not just a job, but a shared responsibility and mission.

They entered the medical field with a very simple thought: it was a noble profession, one that could directly care for and protect the health of the people, and they dreamed of working and contributing to their homeland after graduation. Throughout their long journey, the deeper they delved into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the more they recognized the profound value of the field and always felt proud to contribute to the development of TCM in the province.
Dr. Dung shared: “To successfully complete the assigned tasks, I always set myself the requirement of ‘Strong professional skills; efficient work, sustainable development; every step is a step forward,’ while constantly learning, updating professional knowledge and honing professional skills; regularly exchanging and sharing experiences with colleagues to improve professional quality. I also proactively arrange my time appropriately between work and family, maintaining a sense of responsibility and a proactive attitude in my work.”
Working together in the medical field, they understand the unique nature of the job: high pressure and long working hours. During peak periods, when both are busy, time for family isn't always readily available, but their mutual understanding of each other's profession becomes an advantage. They share everything from professional experiences to the concerns after each case; they encourage each other to overcome pressure, maintain a sense of responsibility towards patients, and preserve their home, building a happy and lasting family.
Dr. Dung further shared: “The biggest advantage of both husband and wife working in the medical field is the deep understanding and empathy. We understand each other's professional pressures, can exchange expertise, support each other emotionally, and work together towards the common goal of providing the best possible patient care. Despite numerous difficulties, by proactively managing our work, sharing household chores, listening to and encouraging each other after each stressful workday, we have maintained a balance between career and family.”
Their family is their pillar of support, allowing them to focus on their work. Both of their children are currently attending university, one of them studying general medicine. In raising their children, they share a common belief: first and foremost, they must teach their children to be people of good character, to be loving, sharing, and responsible towards their family and society.
“Academic achievement is important, but it’s not the only goal. What we want is for our children to grow up in a positive environment, to be independent and have a clear direction for the future, to develop discipline, self-learning skills, and a spirit of overcoming difficulties. Despite our busy work schedules, we still prioritize time for family, because we believe that parental support is the most important foundation in a child’s growth,” said Dr. Dung.
After three decades of dedication to their profession and to each other, Dr. Dung and Dr. Hanh remain steadfast on their chosen path, sharing a common ideal of caring for the people's health and building a happy family through daily companionship, understanding, and sharing, moving forward together on their chosen road.
Overcoming pressure together, preserving the family home.
Dr. Huynh Thi Anh Thu, a specialist in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is currently the Head of the Traditional Chinese Medicine - Physical Therapy - Rehabilitation Department at Hau Nghia Regional General Hospital (Hau Nghia commune). Her husband, Dr. Kieu Ngoc Long Dang, also works at Hau Nghia Regional General Hospital. They not only work together professionally but also build a happy family. For them, understanding and sharing are the "medicine" that keeps their passion for the profession alive and preserves their family life. Same age, both choosing the medical field out of love, they have now been dedicated to their profession for 20 years, married for 14 years, and have two children.
During their careers, with both husband and wife working in the medical field, mutual understanding has been their greatest advantage. Work pressure, high workload, and complex cases are things they both experience regularly. Therefore, they easily empathize, share, and encourage each other to overcome difficulties. "From providing emotional support to exchanging professional experience, we always work together to successfully complete our patient care duties. This sharing helps both of us become stronger in our profession," said Dr. Thu.

To meet the ever-increasing demands in medical examination and treatment, they always strive to study, cultivate medical ethics, and improve their professional skills. Besides participating in training courses and updating their knowledge, they also regularly exchange ideas, support, and remind each other to maintain a sense of responsibility towards patients.
According to Dr. Thu, the biggest challenge when both partners are doctors is the limited time available for family, especially during peak work periods. However, instead of letting pressure overwhelm them, they proactively manage their time effectively, share household chores, and encourage each other to maintain balance. As a result, they both excel in their professional duties while preserving their family happiness.
In their small home, Dr. Thu and Dr. Dang are also understanding, respectful, and supportive partners. They agree on not differentiating roles, sharing the responsibility of caring for their children and family. Despite their busy schedules, they still make time to listen, talk, and encourage each other after each workday. Important family decisions are discussed and agreed upon, creating consensus and a strong bond. For them, happiness doesn't come from grand gestures, but from the care and sharing in the small things of daily life.
In raising their children, the couple shared a common belief: teaching their children to become good people is the most important thing. Besides academics, they focused on shaping their children's character, discipline, compassion, and sense of responsibility. They always set a good example through their lifestyle and words; they spent time with their children in their studies and daily lives, and they worked closely with the school to guide and help their children develop comprehensively. "We believe that when parents live responsibly and love each other, that is the most effective lesson for their children to follow," Dr. Thu shared.
Their dedication to their work and their companionship in life have helped them withstand professional pressures while maintaining a happy family life. This is also the foundation upon which they continue to contribute, silently caring for the health of the people with the heart of a physician.
Despite their diverse positions and circumstances, the common thread among medical families is companionship, understanding, and a shared ideal of caring for the people's health. Behind the white coats are warm homes built on responsibility and love – the foundation that allows them to persevere in their profession, fulfilling their duties to the nation while maintaining a harmonious family life.
