On the morning of August 27th, at the Ton Duc Thang Museum, more than 200 artists, cultural officials, and researchers from Ho Chi Minh City attended the 2025 thematic training conference on literature and art. The event was organized by the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Council for Literary and Artistic Theory and Criticism.
The region's creative city.
The conference revolved around the theme "Literary and artistic creation aimed at building the people of Ho Chi Minh City in the new era," presented by Dr. Trinh Dang Khoa, Chairman of the University Council of Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, and the theme "Managing culture and arts in Ho Chi Minh City in the context of the current Industrial Revolution 4.0," presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Quoc Thang, former Rector of Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts, and member of the Council for Literary and Artistic Theory and Criticism of Ho Chi Minh City.

Delegates exchange views at the 2025 specialized training conference on literature and art.
Dr. Trinh Dang Khoa argues that in a unique urban environment like Ho Chi Minh City – where speed, openness, and cultural exchange are always at a high level – literary and artistic creation must be closely connected to the lives of the people. The goal should be to build a portrait of the people of Ho Chi Minh City as decent, creative, and compassionate. The ideal image of the people of Ho Chi Minh City cannot be imposed but needs to be cultivated through art and daily cultural practices.
Associate Professor Huynh Quoc Thang pointed out the opportunities and challenges of cultural and artistic management in the digital environment, where commercialization, social media, and AI technology are strongly impacting artistic creation.
When these solutions are implemented synchronously, Ho Chi Minh City can transform pressure into leverage, turning the creative energy of the community into soft power to enrich spiritual life, increase social productivity, and affirm its position as a creative city in the region.
Urban cultural identity
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi My Liem expressed: "Artists and writers in Ho Chi Minh City need to clearly understand their responsibilities to the public. In their creative work and performances, they need guidance, contributing to shaping the character and cultural identity of the city after the merger." Associate Professor Dr. Phan Bich Ha proposed: In the context of the cultural industry being promoted, cultural and artistic management must be both directional and encourage creativity. It is necessary to create an environment for the development of new and groundbreaking ideas while still preserving traditional values.
Dr. Le Hong Phuoc (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) analyzed that today's artwork is not only received in traditional spaces, but also on social media and digital platforms. This requires artists to know how to apply technology to bring their works closer to the public, especially young people.
Besides the two main discussion topics, the 2025 Literature and Arts Training Conference also focused on introducing the contents of the Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Industry Development Strategy to 2035, with a vision to 2045. These long-term orientations contribute to realizing the goal of building Ho Chi Minh City into a leading cultural industry center of the country and the region, where artistic creation is closely linked to social and economic development and urban cultural identity.
Ms. Dinh Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, emphasized: "This conference is very important for artists and cultural officials to access the core issues of creative life and art management in the new era. Through this, it contributes to guiding aesthetic tastes and ensuring ideological and humanistic values in cultural and artistic activities in Ho Chi Minh City."
