Giving a 'new look' to the new rural areas.

Today, the countryside of Thai Nguyen is characterized by smooth concrete roads and well-built houses nestled amidst the lush green of forests, tea plantations, and rice paddies. This "new look" of these familiar rural areas stems from the concerted efforts of the government and the people in building a new rural community.

Change in mindset and way of doing things.

In Kha Son commune, traveling along the well-paved inter-commune and rural roads, one can truly feel the changes in this rural area. These changes stem from the mindset and approach of each resident in building a new rural community.

Leading us along the newly completed village road, Mr. Nguyen The Giang, Head of Trung Tam Hamlet, enthusiastically said: "To have this clean, 3-meter-wide, 150-meter-long concrete road, the villagers voluntarily donated land and contributed 30 million VND to build the road with the motto 'The State and the people work together.' Thanks to the solidarity of dozens of households, some contributing money, others donating land, the road was completed early."

Mr. Nguyen Van Hao, a resident of the hamlet, shared: "Thanks to the contributions of the households in the hamlet, the concrete road in front of my house has been completed. Since the new road was built, my family's daily life and travel have become much more convenient than before."

The Trung Tam hamlet currently has 1,050 inhabitants in 230 households. Over the years, the movement to develop the economy and participate in building new rural areas has always been actively supported by the people.

According to Mr. Nguyen The Giang, Head of Trung Tam Hamlet, the most important thing to achieve this consensus is that everything must be transparent, open, and democratic so that people understand and trust the process. This approach creates fairness, ensuring that those who donated land are not disadvantaged and that other households also feel responsible for the common good. To date, 100% of the roads in Trung Tam Hamlet have been concreted to every household.

Kha Son commune was formed by merging the communes of Kha Son, Luong Phu, Thanh Ninh, Tan Duc, and Duong Thanh. Before the merger, all five communes met the new rural development standards for the 2021-2025 period, with three of them achieving advanced new rural development standards. After the merger, the commune conducted a review and reassessment of all new rural development criteria to implement them in accordance with actual conditions.

Accordingly, the First Congress of the Kha Son Commune Party Committee, for the term 2025-2030, identified one of the breakthroughs in development as: Mobilizing all resources to develop a synchronous infrastructure, prioritizing transportation infrastructure, industrial zones and clusters, and rural infrastructure to meet the requirements of socio-economic development.

In addition, the commune is orienting towards developing high-tech commercial agriculture , building product value chains, and aiming to make Kha Son an advanced, model new rural commune in the coming period.

In Tam Thai hamlet, Dong Hy commune, the effectiveness of the New Rural Development Program is clearly demonstrated in the well-paved rural roads. Along with government investment, the villagers actively contributed labor, materials, and land to widen the roads. This consensus among the people has facilitated travel, the transportation of agricultural products, and the trade of goods.

To date, 100% of the commune's main roads have been asphalted, and 100% of the hamlet's main roads have been concreted, ensuring smooth connectivity from the commune center to each residential area. The commune People's Committee is completing and putting into use the lighting system on internal roads and sections crossing National Highway 1B, contributing to creating a modern and attractive rural landscape.

In addition to actively participating in road construction, the people of Dong Hy commune have also proactively exploited the potential and advantages of their land to develop tea cultivation, thereby increasing income and achieving sustainable poverty reduction. Currently, the entire commune has over 1,000 hectares of tea, with a fresh tea leaf production of over 10,370 tons per year, contributing to raising the average per capita income to 61.2 million VND/person/year.

Deputy Chairman of Dong Hy Commune People's Committee, Duong Minh Tri, emphasized: "With the goal of building Dong Hy commune into a modern new rural commune, we focus on developing agriculture applying science and technology , organic production, and developing along the value chain to increase income and reduce poverty sustainably. Along with that, we preserve and promote traditional cultural values, improve the quality of the living environment; and develop infrastructure synchronously in conjunction with digital transformation. In particular, the commune always values and promotes the participation of the community in building a new rural area."

Implementing the National Target Program for Building New Rural Areas, the joint efforts of the community have created significant changes in people's lives. The changes in rural areas throughout the province demonstrate the immense power of consensus.

With increasingly improved infrastructure, wide and smooth concrete roads, many effective economic models, and an improved living environment, all of these factors combine to create a modern and attractive appearance for rural areas.

During the period 2021-2025, the total resources mobilized for the new rural development program in Thai Nguyen province after the merger are estimated at over 85,000 billion VND. Of this, more than 1,282 billion VND is voluntary contribution from the people and community, including in-kind contributions and labor days, accounting for 1.51% of the total resources.

To date, the province has 42 communes that have met the standards for new rural areas, including 4 communes that have achieved advanced new rural area status.

The Resolution of the First Congress of the Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, sets the goal of having 95% of communes in the province meet the standards of new rural areas by 2030. Accordingly, one of the key tasks set by the Provincial Party Committee is to invest in the comprehensive and modern development of socio-economic infrastructure.

Construct, renovate, and upgrade key transportation routes connecting the region and tourist and service areas. Develop synchronous rural infrastructure and essential service infrastructure in remote areas, mountainous regions, and areas inhabited by ethnic minorities…

Efforts in socio-economic development and infrastructure investment have brought about significant changes to rural areas in Thai Nguyen. The combination of economic and infrastructure development with environmental and cultural preservation is gradually transforming rural areas into livable regions, contributing effectively to the province's sustainable development goals.
