The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh urban railway line is 47.7 km long, of which 11.5 km is within Ho Chi Minh City and 36.2 km is within Dong Nai Province. The line is expected to have approximately 19 stations (2 underground and 17 elevated), directly connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the Long Thanh mega-airport.
The total investment for the project is initially estimated at approximately $3.4 billion, with a design speed of 120 km/hour, expected to transport passengers from Thu Thiem to Long Thanh in just 20-25 minutes.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong assessed: In the past period, the relevant departments, agencies, and units have been very active and made efforts to complete the assigned tasks, basically meeting the progress according to the plan.
To ensure transportation connectivity in the context of the new airport becoming commercially operational from the end of this year, city leaders have requested relevant departments and units to continue focusing and mobilizing all resources to proactively implement tasks within their authority; organize the preparation, appraisal, and approval of the Feasibility Study Report (including the FEED), ensuring the procedures are in accordance with regulations; and ensure all conditions are met and construction begins before July 2nd.
To ensure the efficient operation of the project, during the preparation, appraisal, and approval of the Feasibility Study Report, Vice Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong requested the Department of Construction, the Department of Finance, the Department of Planning and Architecture, Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company, and other relevant agencies and units to organize phased investment in the stations, ensuring optimal operational efficiency and running time, and enhancing accessibility to various locations.
Simultaneously, research and organize the planning of the TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) area around the train stations (Thu Thiem station, Binh Trung station, Long Truong Depot, etc.) and the route and location of the works along the route to effectively utilize land and public facilities, contributing to reducing traffic congestion and environmental pollution, as well as increasing revenue for the city's budget.
The units were also tasked with organizing consultations with the People's Committee of Dong Nai City to reach consensus on issues related to the project's route plan; the number and location of stations; connecting transportation routes to the stations; solutions for integrating the metro with other public transportation methods (buses, parking lots, etc.); the system of regulations and standards applicable to the project; and the possibility of connecting with the railway line extending the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to the Provincial Administrative Center and Long Thanh International Airport (S17 station, Long Thanh station).
In addition, review, research, and develop technological plans, a list of regulations and standards; select locomotives and carriages, power supply, traction power, ventilation, automatic fare collection, integrated control and monitoring (SCADA), signaling and communication systems, etc., ensuring synchronization and consistency with urban railway line No. 2, the Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section and the Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem section.
