Nearly 50 artifacts, mostly "luxury" items from a bygone era such as landline telephones, cassette players, music records, watches, film projectors, cameras, bicycles, and mopeds, all still in normal working condition and over half a century old, are being introduced to viewers and tourists for the first time.

Artist Bao Ly said that these are just a few of the approximately one thousand artifacts he has collected over the past nearly 30 years. “I was born and raised in Hoi An, one of the cultural and artistic cradles of Quang Nam province, so I am deeply connected to these artifacts. My love for them led me to determinedly collect them, because they are not only memories of a bygone era but also a preservation for future generations,” shared artist Bao Ly.

Notably, among the exhibits at Kim Bong Village Market are two 35mm film discs (widescreen cinema) which the artist revealed were mementos from his grandfather – one of the builders of the Phi Anh Hoi An cinema in 1957.

In addition, viewers and visitors can admire unique artifacts such as two bicycles from the 1950s and 60s, still complete with accessories like horns, bells, conical hats, and leather bags hanging from the back, or two nearly 70-year-old mopeds... all displayed respectfully as proud testaments to a time of luxury and wealth.

According to artist Bao Ly, without passion, knowledge, and financial resources, it's difficult to pursue the hobby of collecting. In 2003, the artist bought a moped for 12 million dong, while the price of a 200m² plot of land in Tan An ward was only a little over 14 million dong. "I want to display these artifacts in the Kim Bong Village Market space to create a nostalgic memory, and also to introduce the life and culture of the people of Hoi An from a bygone era," said artist Bao Ly.

Artist Bao Ly stated that, in addition to vintage cars and machinery, the most prominent item in his collection is his collection of ceramics, numbering over 300 pieces, mainly Japanese ceramics intended for the upper and middle classes. Notably, he has also collected and preserved some rare 18th-century Chinese porcelain vases.
