New spaces boost tourism in Hung Yen.

Following the boundary adjustments, Hung Yen province's tourism development potential has expanded, creating conditions for the formation of distinctive products based on its heritage strengths and traditional craft villages. The addition of historical sites, along with its marine potential, provides a foundation for the province to build a diverse product ecosystem.

Besides cultural tourism, which plays a leading role, Hung Yen province aims to promote beach tourism, eco-tourism and resort tourism, and increase regional linkages, thereby enhancing the cultural value and economic efficiency of the locality.

The allure of ancient relics

The Pho Hien National Special Historical Site, with its 17 representative historical landmarks, forms a cultural complex rich in historical value. This system of relics preserves 41 stone steles inscribed with Chinese and Nom characters, created from the first half of the 17th century to the first half of the 20th century, contributing to recreating the appearance of a once bustling trading port in the Red River region. At Chuong Pagoda in Nhan Duc neighborhood, Hien Nam ward, the "Kim Chung Tu Thach Bi Ky" stele, inscribed in 1711, records the formation and flourishing period of the ancient city of Pho Hien with more than 20 wards and towns. Many other stone steles are also distributed at historical sites such as Mau Temple, Van Mieu-Xich Dang, Thien Hau Temple, etc.

The province has completed the scientific dossier on the "Pho Hien Stone Stele System, Hung Yen" and submitted it to UNESCO for consideration for inclusion in the Asia-Pacific Regional Documentary Heritage List. Once recognized, this will be a significant advantage for Hung Yen in enhancing the value of its heritage and expanding tourism products based on the unique historical and cultural foundation of Pho Hien.

From Pho Hien, the journey continues to A Sao commune - a sacred land associated with the life and career of Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan. The A Sao communal house, temple, and elephant wharf complex commemorates many events in the resistance war against the Yuan-Mongol invaders, preserving the touching story of the war elephant crossing the Hoa River with the cry of "kill the Mongols!"

According to historical records, A Sào was once one of the four ancient scenic spots of Thái Bình province, mentioned in the folk song "Đào Động, Lộng Khê, Tô Đê, A Sào - Phủ Phượng Lý Dynasty's four ancient scenic spots," meaning "Đào Động, Lộng Khê, Tô Đê, and A Sào, belonging to Phủ Phượng during the Lý Dynasty, were four ancient scenic spots." This place is where a "sinh từ" (a temple dedicated to Trần Hưng Đạo during his lifetime) was established, associated with the praise "The first sinh từ of Kiếp Bạc - the second sinh từ of A Sào."

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Bang, Deputy Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of A Sao commune, the A Sao Temple and Wharf historical site covers 31.7 hectares and includes the Tran Hung Dao Temple, the Me Thuong historical site, and the Wharf. The local government and people prioritize preserving the cultural space associated with the traditional A Sao Temple festival. The site is continuously being renovated and expanded to connect various tourist routes.

Expanding into new cultural spaces.

Besides its advantage of a dense network of historical sites, Hung Yen currently possesses many traditional craft villages rich in cultural value, including the Nam Cao silk weaving village, which is over 400 years old. In recent years, the traditional weaving craft has strongly revived, creating a foundation for building the "Nam Cao Silk" brand and developing an eco-village model for experiential tourism.

Mr. Ha The Cong, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Le Loi Commune, said that the locality currently has two large production facilities, including the Nam Cao Silk Weaving Cooperative, established by people dedicated to the silk weaving craft. The cooperative also connects with tourism, exports products abroad, and supports people in expanding production. The commune has planned 29 hectares to create a space for preserving the craft combined with tourism development, opening up a sustainable path for the traditional craft village.

Following the merger, Hung Yen province gained an additional 54 km of coastline with a diverse ecosystem including flat beaches, natural sand dunes, mangrove forests, and wetland conservation areas. The province aims to promote the development of eco-tourism products in the Con Vanh and Con Den coastal tourist areas.

In addition, modern urban areas such as Ecopark and Dream City create favorable conditions for organizing large festivals and events. Programs such as "Brother Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles," the Ocean 2025 International Lantern Festival, and G-Dragon's recent concert series attracted large audiences from Hanoi and neighboring provinces and cities. This year, Hung Yen aims to welcome 3.9 million visitors (including 71,000 international visitors); total revenue is expected to reach 1,700 billion VND.

According to Bui Thi Luong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hung Yen province: After the merger, the province's tourism product structure has become more diverse, especially ecotourism and cultural, historical, and spiritual tourism. Currently, 13 tourist areas and destinations in the province have applied digital technologies such as AR, VR, and 360-degree tours, thereby expanding interactive spaces, increasing experiences, and fostering community engagement.

With its long-standing cultural traditions and abundant cultural resources, Hung Yen currently boasts 3,716 historical sites, including six special national-level sites and clusters of sites, and 10 national treasures; 29 intangible cultural heritage sites, over 1,152 festivals, and 257 traditional craft villages. Despite its vast tourism potential, the province still faces some limitations. Tourists' length of stay is short, and the range of experiential products is not yet sufficiently attractive.

To maximize the potential after the merger, many experts believe the province needs to continue promoting cultural innovation associated with festivals, traditional crafts, and heritage sites, while expanding tourism routes linking with Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and Ninh Binh; and developing on-site experiential tours.
