In Phu Tan commune, the model of utilizing shrimp pond embankment land to increase production, implemented by Mr. Phan Van Tranh in Tan Phu hamlet, not only provides a stable livelihood for his family but also becomes a typical example with a widespread impact on the community.

From the once-abandoned embankment, Mr. Phan Van Tranh planted pineapples and bananas as intercrops, creating a steady source of income, contributing to increased earnings and reducing dependence on shrimp farming.

As a veteran, Mr. Phan Van Tranh has always maintained his diligent and exemplary qualities, refusing to succumb to poverty. Previously, his family invested in industrial shrimp farming hoping to improve their economic situation . However, due to high costs and complex disease outbreaks, the results were not as expected, and at times the family suffered losses and accumulated debt. While many families chose to leave their hometown to seek work elsewhere, Mr. Tranh decided to stay and find a new path right on his family's land.

Following the local government's policy of diversifying livelihoods and improving land use efficiency, Mr. Tranh boldly shifted his production focus. On more than 2 acres of land surrounding his shrimp ponds, he utilized it to grow bananas, coconuts, watermelons, and pineapples, combined with raising shrimp and crabs using an improved extensive farming method. The crops were arranged in a rational intercropping and rotation system, suitable to the soil conditions, reducing investment costs while effectively utilizing land that had previously been neglected.

Veteran Phan Van Tranh's innovative model of growing vegetables aligns with the policy of diversifying livelihoods and increasing income for local farmers.

Sharing his experience, Mr. Tranh said that growing crops on the embankment is mainly about "earning profit through labor," not requiring large capital. There are both short-term and long-term crops, so there's a year-round source of income. Thanks to careful planning of planting seasons, selection of suitable varieties, and effective utilization of family labor, the average annual income from crops on the embankment is over 100 million VND. As a result, his family's finances have gradually stabilized, old debts have been paid off, and he feels secure and committed to his homeland.

Not only does Mr. Phan Van Tranh's model bring economic benefits to his family, but it also creates a positive ripple effect in the community. In Tan Phu hamlet, many households who had left their hometowns to work elsewhere due to the inefficiency of shrimp farming have returned and adopted the model of growing crops on the embankments to increase their income. This shows that the local government's policies and resolutions on improving farmers' lives have truly been implemented through concrete actions that are appropriate to the local conditions.

“Mr. Phan Van Tranh's model of growing crops on the embankments of shrimp ponds is a suitable approach in the context of increasingly severe impacts of climate change and rising risks in shrimp farming. This is also a model that the locality encourages to replicate in order to effectively implement resolutions on rural economic development and improve people's lives.”

Mr. Pham Trieu Thang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Tan commune, affirmed this.

From a family that once faced many difficulties, through willpower, perseverance, and a spirit of innovation in labor and production, veteran Phan Van Tranh has risen to achieve legitimate wealth. His model not only helps his family maintain a stable livelihood without leaving their hometown but also represents a concrete and meaningful achievement to welcome the Party Congress at all levels, affirming the leading role of the people in implementing resolutions and building an increasingly prosperous homeland.
