These days, Mr. Tran Van Chuong's aquaculture business (Ong Cu Island area, Cam Dong ward, Cam Pha city) is facing many difficulties due to damage caused by typhoon No. 3. But with 20 years of experience in the profession, and with his love and faith in the sea, Mr. Chuong is confident and focused on resuming production, determined to expand his production scale even further than before.

Born and raised in Lien Hoa (Quang Yen town), Mr. Chuong became familiar with fishing at an early age. After many years of working on fishing boats in coastal, inshore, and offshore areas, Mr. Chuong gained considerable knowledge about the growth and development of fish and shrimp. In 2000, Mr. Chuong decided to switch to aquaculture in the Ong Cu Island area (Cam Dong ward, Cam Pha city). Starting with 5 small cages for raising grouper, Mr. Chuong gradually built up a system of wooden cages with nearly 50 cages for raising grouper, snapper, and other types of fish.

Over time, Mr. Chuong became a skilled and experienced fish farmer on Ong Cu Island. His fish are healthy and grow quickly thanks to being fed with the right amount of trash fish, having their cages cleaned regularly, and being restocked at each stage of development to provide them with the best living space.

Mr. Chuong shared: "Each aquaculture farmer has their own way of doing things, however, the basic element that everyone must do well is close attention to their stock. The entire process of raising fish from hatchling to maturity can sometimes take up to two years, so every day the farmer must monitor their behavior, detect any abnormalities immediately, and handle them effectively…"

Thanks to this method, the quantity and quality of Mr. Chuong's farmed fish are highly appreciated, and traders buy them at good prices. Income from aquaculture at sea brings Mr. Chuong hundreds of millions to billions of dong per fish season. This not only helps him stabilize his life but also allows him to provide for his children's education, build a large and beautiful house in Lien Hoa, and help his relatives and friends with jobs and startup capital.

Currently, on Ong Cu Island, there are dozens of people whom Mr. Chuong has mentored in aquaculture, forming a strong cooperative at sea. They help, encourage, and share with each other in production and in life, especially during difficult times. For example, after the recent Typhoon No. 3, faced with heavy losses, many considered giving up, but Mr. Chuong and everyone in the cooperative promptly shared their support, encouraged each other, and helped each other start over.

Since the beginning of November, Mr. Chuong has completed reinforcing the old fish cages and building new ones to focus on raising the remaining fish while simultaneously searching for suitable fish fry to add to the stock, hoping for a new, strong fish population. Mr. Chuong shared: "The fishing industry is inherently volatile; sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, that's normal. What's important is our determination. Compared to many other professions on land, fishing is considered easier, more suitable, and our greatest advantage, so we are determined to pursue this profession. I believe that I and those who are passionate about marine aquaculture will become wealthy from the sea."
