Unity - the key to success

Hai Duong has long been known as a fertile agricultural land with hardworking and resilient farmers. Many farmers have proactively formed cooperatives and production groups to develop together. This unity and cooperation have helped them overcome difficulties, improve production efficiency, and expand the market for agricultural products.

One exemplary model is the Tan Minh Duc Cooperative in Pham Tran commune (Gia Loc district). Mr. Hoang Anh Thu, Deputy Director of the Tan Minh Duc Cooperative, stated that this solidarity was most clearly demonstrated when Typhoon No. 3 struck in early September 2024, causing serious damage with losses reaching 180 billion VND. However, thanks to the combined efforts of its members, within just three months, the entire greenhouse area was rebuilt and production resumed normally.

It was during this difficult time that the members supported each other without expecting anything in return. Some contributed dozens of days cleaning the greenhouses, while others readily lent each other hundreds of millions of dong without interest.

Besides supporting each other in production, the Thanh Nhan Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative in Vu Xa village, Thuong Quan commune (Kinh Mon district) also buys the cassava starch produced by its members to make flour. Due to the impact of typhoon No. 3, this year's cassava production is lower than in previous years, and at times there wasn't enough for production. However, the members discussed and purchased fresh tubers from many other provinces and cities to produce flour for the market. Mr. Bui Van Thanh, the director of the cooperative, said that the members are all experienced producers, so whenever difficulties arise, they quickly find solutions together.

Farmers in Vinh Cuong commune (Thanh Ha district) are sharing their experiences in harvesting mudworms so that everyone can make a good profit.

Not only in the field of crop cultivation, the spirit of mutual support is also clearly demonstrated among farmers harvesting mudworms in Vinh Cuong commune (Thanh Ha district). With nearly 60 hectares of land dedicated to mudworm harvesting, the people here regularly share experiences to improve harvesting efficiency. Previously, some households would harvest hundreds of kilograms of mudworms while their neighbors would get very little. Now, thanks to learning from each other about improving the mudworm's living environment, every household enjoys a bountiful harvest. They jointly research the optimal time for soil improvement and water treatment to ensure the best possible mudworm growth. Importantly, when selling mudworms, the farmers commit to not undercutting the market price, ensuring profits for all households. Therefore, mudworm harvesting is becoming increasingly efficient, and no one suffers a crop failure.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Bach, from Thuan My village, Vinh Cuong commune, currently has 8 acres of land for harvesting mudworms, earning a profit of 800 million to 1 billion VND per year. Mr. Bach said: "Those who know good techniques pass them on to others so that we can all cultivate more effectively. Agriculture is difficult to succeed in without cooperation. The strength of solidarity has helped our lives gradually improve."

Cooperative models among farmers in Hai Duong are demonstrating that solidarity not only helps overcome difficulties but also forms the foundation for sustainable agricultural development.

Enhancing the value of agricultural products

Based on practical experience, Mr. Pham Gia Vu, Director of the Le Loi Agricultural Service Cooperative (Gia Loc district), said that when cooperating with each other, people not only create higher quality products but also invest in packaging, collective trademarks, processing, and product packaging... to enhance the value of agricultural products.

Evolving from the Chi Linh Honey Cooperative, Viet-Italian Honey Joint Stock Company (Chi Linh) has fostered a spirit of unity, overcoming numerous difficulties to establish its products firmly in the market. Each member of the company is assigned to oversee a specific area, from production to consumption and brand building. To date, the company has over 2,000 bee colonies. Three of the company's products have achieved OCOP 3-star certification: honey, royal jelly, and special beeswax combs. In addition to domestic consumption, the company has partnered with many export businesses to bring its products to markets such as Germany and the United States. All members of the company are farmers with a passion for their profession and a determination to realize their aspiration of elevating agricultural products.

Over the years, local Party committees and authorities have played a crucial role in leading, directing, and organizing support for farmers in promoting trade, finding new markets, and simultaneously boosting the development of agricultural product brands. Thanks to the harmonious coordination between the government and farmers, Hai Duong's agricultural product brands have become increasingly well-known, contributing to increased income.

Despite facing natural disasters or market fluctuations, the spirit of solidarity and the will to overcome challenges have always been the decisive factors in the success of farmers in Hai Duong.

According to the Hai Duong Provincial Cooperative Union, the province currently has 530 cooperatives, 800 cooperative groups, and 155 value chains involving businesses. The model of value chain linkages between cooperatives, with businesses, and international cooperation yields high economic efficiency, creates quality products, and expands consumer markets.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Chairwoman of the Hai Duong Provincial Cooperative Union, in the coming time, the unit will focus on building cooperative models that apply high technology and digital technology, linked to processing and consumption along the value chain, improving quality, efficiency, competitiveness, and proactively integrating into the international market.
