Out-of-season plum blossoms are blooming at Ban Moc Farm plum orchard, Thao Nguyen ward.
For a long time, plum blossoms in Moc Chau have been associated with the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, when the weather warms up. But in recent years, thanks to favorable weather conditions and the care and application of staggered plum cultivation techniques by the local people, clusters of pure white plum blossoms have bloomed early, covering the hillsides of the Moc Chau plateau with pristine white.

Joining the crowds flocking to the highlands in the early days of winter, we visited Ban Moc Farm plum orchard in Thao Nguyen ward. Spanning over 6 hectares, the plum trees had already bloomed out of season, covering the orchard in a pure white hue. Instead of covering the entire hillside like during the main season, the flowers bloomed in clusters and delicate streaks, creating a unique, gentle, and shy beauty amidst the early morning mist of Moc Chau.
Sharing with us, Mr. Vu Trung Hai, owner of the Ban Moc Farm brand chain, said: To have early-blooming plum blossoms to serve tourists from December, right after harvesting the previous crop, the plum orchards are pruned, shaped, and fertilized according to a specific process to stimulate the trees to bud. Mastering the flowering time not only helps sell off-season plums at a higher price, but also generates additional revenue from entrance fees and accompanying services. On peak days, the plum orchard welcomes 600 to 1,000 visitors daily, with an entrance fee of 40,000 VND per person.

The proactive efforts of plum growers have awakened the orchards that were dormant during the winter, transforming them into attractive "check-in" spots for tourists in the early days of winter. Despite the cold temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius, the plum orchards are still bustling with visitors coming to admire the scenery and take photos.
"This is my first time visiting Moc Chau to see the plum blossoms blooming out of season," said Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, a tourist from Hanoi . She excitedly shared: "Through images shared on social media, my friends and I decided to visit the plateau this weekend and were truly impressed by the pristine white plum blossoms hidden in the early winter mist, along with the friendliness and hospitality of the local people, creating a romantic and poetic Moc Chau."

In harmony with the changing seasons, the Moc Chau plateau is resplendent in the gentle white and yellow hues of mustard flowers. From seeds sown in September, by December, the mustard flowers bloom profusely, covering the hillsides like soft, pristine carpets, creating a peaceful and romantic atmosphere. No longer just growing mustard for its seeds as before, many households have skillfully transformed their fields and gardens, turning the flowering season into an attractive stop for tourists.
Among the many popular destinations, Loi Tuoi Farm in Van Son ward stands out as a highlight. From the hillside, a panoramic view of the sprawling canola flower fields, with their interwoven yellow and white hues, creates a harmonious and serene natural landscape, inviting visitors to explore, experience, and capture memorable moments.

Leading us on a tour of the canola flower garden, Mr. Nguyen Thach Tung Linh, Director of Agrico Fresh Core Co., Ltd., explained: "To maintain the vibrant colors of the flowers throughout the winter, we don't plant them all at once. Instead, we divide the area into several sections and plant in staggered cycles. This ensures that some areas are in full bloom to welcome visitors in December, some are just beginning to flower for Christmas and New Year's Day, and a large area was planted later to guarantee the flowers are still in full bloom for the Lunar New Year. In addition, the garden space is meticulously planned, with various scenic spots creating many photo opportunities for visitors."
After a photoshoot here, Tran Minh Tam, a freelance photographer from Hai Phong city, shared: "Moc Chau's mustard flowers still have a very unique charm. What impressed me most about Loi Tuoi Farm's mustard flower garden is the synchronized planning; the rows of mustard plants are straight and tall, creating beautiful depth for the photos. The staggered planting also gives me peace of mind when recommending Moc Chau to my friends during Tet, because there are always flowers to enjoy. The systematic investment of the garden owners is contributing to making tourism in the Moc Chau plateau increasingly professional."

The off-season plum orchards and meticulously cultivated canola fields have created a captivating landscape for the Moc Chau plateau, showcasing the innovative thinking, diligence, and creativity of the local farmers. From these characteristic seasonal flowers, the locals have skillfully elevated them into attractive tourism products, enriching the visitor experience and creating a unique appeal for the journey to discover "Moc Chau - a world- leading natural destination."
