In the eyes of international friends, Vietnam is beautiful not only because of its majestic nature or vibrant, bustling cities, but also because of the friendly smiles, sincerity, hospitality, and willingness to share of its people. It is this very quality that helps Vietnamese people always find joy, optimism, and a love for life in every little thing.
At the same time, sharing in the spirit of "mutual support" and "caring for others as oneself" has become a cultural trait and an inherent strength, helping Vietnam to overcome natural disasters, storms, floods, and epidemics, of which the Covid-19 pandemic and the floods in some central provinces at the end of November 2025 are examples.
And it's not just friendliness, sharing, sincerity, and hospitality; the Vietnamese people also possess a steadfast, indomitable spirit, always resilient and strong, looking forward with faith and optimism for a bright future.
With the spirit of "even women will fight when the enemy comes to our house," and "even with just a pair of trousers left, we will fight," the Vietnamese people have crushed all invading enemies, so that the country can enjoy independence, freedom, and happiness as it does today. These are the things that international friends feel when they visit this S-shaped country: Vietnam is truly a happy country.
Vietnamese people, no matter where they live—city or countryside—all share one thing in common: they always carry within themselves positive energy and spread that energy to those around them, thereby transforming seemingly impossible things into possibilities. To possess this positive energy, the Vietnamese people have inherited and benefited from the cultural traditions of their ancestors, accumulated over thousands of years of civilization.
According to Associate Professor Tran Thanh Nam, a nation's happiness doesn't just come from GDP growth, but is composed of many intangible factors such as: the level of individual freedom, the number of years lived in good health, social safety, a spirit of mutual support, and a perception of transparency and anti-corruption.
Vietnam has made remarkable progress in improving material living standards, but what is even more valuable is the sense of freedom, trust in the community, and the spirit of mutual support and compassion.
Building upon the solid foundations of Vietnamese cultural traditions and identity as described above, Vietnam's happiness indicators are continuously improving.
Accordingly, the latest statistics from Numbeo in 2025, which scored 146 selected countries and territories globally, show that Vietnam ranks second in Southeast Asia in the happiness index, and 46th out of 143 ranked countries and territories.
This result is not something that happened by chance, but rather the culmination of a long-term effort to build national happiness. And it is certain that, in the future, Vietnam's happiness index will continue to improve, as we are constantly striving to create a happy nation.
The happiness of a nation is woven from millions of pieces of happiness belonging to each individual. Finding happiness for oneself is also contributing to building a happier country. When each person is happy, the nation will be happy.
