According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Phuoc, in recent times, thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, especially the leadership and guidance of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee, the work concerning Vietnamese people abroad has achieved many important results, contributing to strengthening the great national unity. This has encouraged and motivated the Vietnamese community in general and overseas Vietnamese from An Giang province in particular to always uphold national pride, solidarity, mutual support, preserve national traditions and cultural identity, and integrate harmoniously with host countries while always keeping their homeland and country in their hearts.
According to statistics, more than 50,000 people from An Giang are living and working abroad in 95 countries and territories. The Vietnamese community in general continues to be a bridge of friendship, cooperation, and development between Vietnam and other countries and their people; increasingly integrating deeply, affirming the role and prestige of our overseas compatriots in their host countries and continuing to contribute valuable resources to the country.
According to Comrade Le Van Phuoc, during difficult times, overseas Vietnamese across the five continents have turned their attention to their homeland, strongly promoting the spirit of mutual support and sharing, providing timely assistance to compatriots in the country in areas still facing many difficulties and suffering damage from storms and floods. In recent years, the Party and State of Vietnam have continuously upgraded and expanded the establishment of relations with other countries, creating a more open and favorable corridor for overseas Vietnamese to visit their homeland; consistently implementing the Party and State's policy that: "The overseas Vietnamese community is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese national community."
The Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Provincial Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have issued numerous documents aimed at raising awareness and responsibility among officials at all levels and sectors in reforming administrative procedures and resolving difficulties and obstacles to support and facilitate overseas Vietnamese visiting their homeland, investing in production and business, transferring technology, or participating in rural development and social welfare policies.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang, an overseas Vietnamese from An Giang residing in Finland, said that she and other overseas Vietnamese are very proud of their homeland, An Giang. She shares the feeling that not only those who have been away from home for many years, but even those who frequently return to Vietnam, are amazed by the daily changes in the country and in An Giang. With increasingly open and liberal policies encouraging overseas Vietnamese to return and contribute to the development of the country and the province, she said: “I am deeply moved by the warm welcomes from the provincial leaders, the friendly handshakes, the meetings, and the interactions. This genuine, close, and heartfelt affection motivates us overseas Vietnamese to always look towards our homeland and country,” Ms. Trang shared.
Mr. Tran Chi Dung, Chairman of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, said that to date, the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations has 11 member friendship associations with more than 1,100 members, serving as an extension of cooperative relations with 11 countries that have bilateral friendship associations. In the two years of 2024 and 2025, the union mobilized and disbursed more than 100 billion VND, contributing to the socio -economic development of the province.
Following the merger, An Giang province now has 52 foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) registered and operating within its territory, with dozens of practical projects such as bridges and roads, schools, medical equipment, housing and scholarships, environmental projects, and livelihood creation for the poor. These projects have made significant contributions to the construction of new rural areas in the province, especially in remote, mountainous, and coastal areas… with valuable contributions from overseas Vietnamese sent through NGOs and their relatives in Vietnam.
“The Union of Friendship Organizations of An Giang province hopes that our overseas compatriots will effectively play the role of a bridge of friendship with the Vietnamese expatriate communities living in their host countries. Through this, they can further introduce and promote the image of their homeland, An Giang. At the same time, we also hope that our overseas compatriots will continue to build a united, strong, and successful Vietnamese community, gaining prestige and a worthy position in their host countries,” Mr. Tran Chi Dung shared.
