On Sunday morning, October 12th, fellow members of the 1976 European Dragon Association simultaneously announced the event "Special Charity Music Night: Towards our compatriots in flood-affected areas," which will take place from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM on October 15th at the Dong Do Event Center (Prague, Czech Republic). This event is organized by the Union of Vietnamese Associations in the Czech Republic.

Rarely does a Vietnamese-organized music event abroad have such a short timeframe, from concept to final announcement, all within a single day, and taking place in the middle of the week rather than the weekend. Yet, just three hours after the official announcement, a member of the organizing committee stated that all VIP tickets (approximately 120 EUR/ticket) had sold out. At this art event with a clear mission, the organizing committee did not conduct on-site fundraising but decided that all proceeds from ticket sales (after deducting organizational costs) would be sent back to Vietnam to help people affected by the recent storms and floods.
Since last weekend, many Vietnamese organizations and associations in the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, and other countries have officially called for and planned fundraising events to ensure the most effective and timely donations. The Vietnamese Business and Entrepreneur Association in the UK (VBUK) is calling for contributions (deadline October 31st) to provide emergency relief in the form of essential supplies, medical care , home repairs, and livelihood restoration for people in flood-affected areas.
In the same spirit, the Vietnamese Women's Association in the Netherlands launched a fundraising campaign from October 6th to October 30th. This weekend, coinciding with the Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20th, the Vietnamese Women's Association in Belgium, under the General Association of Vietnamese in Belgium (UGVB), will organize a fundraising event to support flood victims in Vietnam. The familiar box with a red heart and the words "Helping our compatriots affected by floods in our homeland Vietnam" is always carried by Ms. Nguyen Phuong, Head of Community Development at UGVB, to events that combine charity work. The box is transparent, reflecting Ms. Phuong's philosophy to me: "It has to be transparent."
In Prague, Dinh Thi Kim Oanh, Tran Quynh Hoa, and their friends and sisters (members of the Vietnamese Association at the Sapa Trade Center, participating in a fundraising campaign to support flood victims in Vietnam) spent their weekend without rest. Though thousands of miles from home, Kim Oanh felt a lump in her throat as she repeatedly watched the image of a child in the flood-stricken area swimming to ask for a bottle of oil to apply to her grandmother: “That scene made me just want to call for more support, sell more tickets for the charity concert to contribute to helping our compatriots.”
