The German strategist insisted he had not received any calls from the Spanish royal club and that Real Madrid's parting ways with coach Alonso was completely unrelated to him.
Speaking to Servus TV (Austria), coach Klopp said: "That has nothing to do with me." The 57-year-old coach jokingly added that his phone did ring, but "not from Madrid."
Commenting on the departure of coach Alonso, Klopp expressed considerable surprise. He praised the abilities of his younger colleague and suggested that his departure from Real Madrid after only a few months was a sign that "something wasn't running smoothly" at the Bernabéu.
According to coach Klopp, the immense pressure at Real Madrid leaves coaches with almost no time to build the team they want.
The former Liverpool manager also analyzed that Alonso faced many difficulties when taking over the hot seat after Carlo Ancelotti, a legendary coach with a very unique style and tactical imprint. Implementing new changes in an environment that demands immediate results like Real Madrid is an enormous challenge.
Since leaving Liverpool in 2024, Klopp has not returned to coaching. Currently, he serves as the Global Director of Football for Red Bull. However, after Alonso's unexpected departure from Real Madrid after only half a season, Klopp's name immediately emerged as a potential candidate.
