In the brilliant golden sunlight of an August autumn day, the 500kV power line project, circuit 3, from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi ( Hung Yen ) was officially inaugurated, doubling the joy of national triumph on the eve of the National Day on September 2nd. From here, the power line circuit 3 now connects all regions, carrying with it the faith and pride of the great unity of the Vietnamese people, and also the aspirations to "reach high and fly far" in the journey of building the nation!
Because "electric currents never stop flowing"!
Over 2.5 million cubic meters of earth, 705,000 cubic meters of concrete, 209,000 tons of steel, 503 spans with nearly 14,000 kilometers of various types of conductors... these are the staggering figures announced by the General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group, Nguyen Anh Tuan, at the inauguration ceremony of the 500kV circuit 3 power line. According to Mr. Tuan, this volume of work would normally take 3-4 years to complete, so the 6-month target was initially considered "impossible."

The 500 kV circuit 3 power line project passes through Hau Loc district.
For over 210 days and nights, more than 5,000 working hours, tens of thousands of officials, engineers, and workers diligently and enthusiastically worked with the spirit of "only talking about doing, not talking about retreating," "overcoming the sun, conquering the rain, not losing to the wind and storms," working "3 shifts, 4 teams," "eating quickly, sleeping urgently" to bring the project to completion on schedule.
According to the National Power Transmission Corporation, in addition to the tight timeframe, the project faced numerous other obstacles, including difficulties with mechanisms and procedures; challenges in mobilizing a large quantity of specialized machinery and equipment for construction along the entire route; and difficulties in mobilizing highly skilled and technically proficient personnel for pole erection and wire pulling. Furthermore, many construction sites were located on steep, mountainous terrain, making access to the pole foundations difficult, especially during rainy weather when the roads were steep, slippery, and the construction site unfavorable. Simultaneously, construction conditions in the North were extremely unfavorable, with periods of freezing rain, scorching heat, and storms. At times, the construction progress seemed impossible to complete.

The Hau Giang Provincial Police Task Force overcame difficulties to construct and erect steel pole 141 in Trung Chinh commune (Nong Cong district).
Overcoming countless challenges, with collective strength and a spirit of "only talking about doing, not talking about retreating," and "standing shoulder to shoulder," the project has officially commenced operations today, capable of transmitting up to 34 billion kWh of electricity to the North in the coming days.
As one of the contractors undertaking a massive volume of work on the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line, and present at the nation's joyous occasion at the Thanh Hoa 500kV substation and connection point, Mr. Le The Hanh, Director of Phuong Hanh Co., Ltd., happily shared: “This project's inauguration, while sharing in the general joy, is also a source of pride for us, reflecting our exceptional efforts for a special project. We participated in 6 bidding packages across 3/4 of the project's components: Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh 1 Thermal Power Plant - Thanh Hoa, and Nam Dinh 1 Thermal Power Plant - Pho Noi, with 94 tower foundation locations and 41 anchoring spans. This is the largest volume of work the company has ever undertaken. Throughout the construction period, we mobilized approximately 500 skilled engineers and technicians, along with maximum machinery and equipment, to simultaneously organize construction fronts. All 4 bidding packages were undertaken by us.” "My work was completed ahead of schedule, with 4 packages finished by June 29th and 2 packages by August 15th, contributing significantly to the project's success today."

The national flag flies atop the completed power pole on the 500kV transmission line connecting Nam Dinh 1 Thermal Power Plant and Thanh Hoa.
Responsible for supervising and accepting the 500kV transmission line project from Nam Dinh 1 Thermal Power Plant to Thanh Hoa, the engineers of Power Transmission Company 1 were deeply moved to witness the moment the entire line officially went into operation. This success is proof of the tireless efforts of the team during the harsh months of hard work on the construction site. Deputy Team Leader Lu Thanh Hung of the power transmission team said emotionally: “It was truly hard work, but we are also incredibly proud. This is probably a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ project in the lives of us ‘electricians.’ The contributions and sacrifices of those tireless days and nights have now been shared in the joy of everyone.”
Reportedly, this team consists of 14 engineers, assigned to supervise and inspect the project from pole 48 to 174. "We have followed the route closely, organized inspections, and inspected each project item according to plan. Through the inspections, we have promptly identified shortcomings and requested the contractor to address them, ensuring the overall conditions for power commissioning," added Mr. Lu Thanh Hung.

In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, besides acknowledging the efforts of the investor, contractor, and construction unit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also expressed his special gratitude to the people, especially those who gave up their homes, their ancestral lands, and their production land for the project. To complete the 519 km long power line, with 1,177 tower foundation locations passing through 43 districts and 211 communes in 9 provinces, compensation and land clearance work involved reclaiming approximately 1.83 million m², affecting more than 5,000 households. However, skillful public relations work in land clearance yielded "sweet results," with the entire population wholeheartedly supporting the project, voluntarily relocating, and sacrificing personal interests for this remarkable undertaking.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long and Provincial Party Secretary Do Trong Hung, along with other delegates, visited the exhibition area displaying construction photos at the Thanh Hoa 500 kV Substation and its connection.
In Thanh Hoa, land clearance work has also been recognized for its success, exceeding planned targets. The sacrifices and consensus of the people have been the greatest support for the investor to achieve remarkable progress in constructing the power line through Thanh Hoa.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh's family in Chinh Nghia village, Nga Phu commune (Nga Son district) is one of the households that agreed to hand over the land early to allow the investor to implement the 500kV power line from Nam Dinh 1 Thermal Power Plant to Thanh Hoa. The early handover of the land facilitated the project's commissioning on June 30th – the earliest date on the entire 500kV circuit 3. Expressing his joy upon receiving the news of the project's completion, Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh shared: "I and many other households in the village unanimously supported the project. Today, I am very happy because the joy of the country is partly due to the support of our people."
Realizing the aspiration to "lead the way"
Officially opened for technical commissioning on the evening of August 27th, the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line project, with a double-circuit capacity of 2,500 MW, will bring the total power transmission capacity from the South to the North to 5,000 MW; improving the operational stability of the power system and reducing the risk of overloading for existing 500kV lines and substations.

The inauguration ceremony for the 500 kV circuit 3 transmission line project took place on the morning of August 29th.

The 500kV Thanh Hoa "ultra-high voltage" substation and its connection point in Thieu Hoa is one of three central substations on the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi (Hung Yen), along with the 500kV substations at Pho Noi (Hung Yen) and Quynh Luu (Nghe An). Mr. Dang Ngoc Hai, the substation manager of the 500kV Thanh Hoa substation, stated: “Measurements on the system on the morning of August 29th showed the system was receiving 274 MW of power. According to the National Power Dispatch Center (A0), nearly 100 MW is being offloaded to two 220kV substations to regulate power for Thanh Hoa; 152 MW is being regulated to the North when transferred through the 500kV Pho Noi substation.”

The Thanh Hoa 500kV substation is one of the three central substations vital to the transmission line.

Upon taking over the operation of the Thanh Hoa 500kV Substation, Mr. Lu Thanh Hai, Director of Thanh Hoa Power Transmission Company, shared: “The operating force for this ‘ultra-high voltage’ substation consists of 16 people, divided into 3 shifts and 5 teams with strict operating procedures. Before officially commencing operation, the technical force underwent training to ensure high technical expertise for optimal operation. With the transmission line now operational, Thanh Hoa province has received a significant supply and regulation of electricity to supplement its ever-increasing consumption needs.”
For the people of Thanh Hoa, they may not fully understand the significance and operation of the project. However, the fact that such a magnificent structure appeared in just over six months of "miraculous" speed not only expresses joy but also admiration and pride in the achievement of something "extraordinary." Mr. Trinh Van Long, from Trieu Loc commune (Hau Loc district), shared: "Following the media, we learned that this is a national-scale project. Although we don't fully understand the project's significance, looking at the towering power poles stretching far into the distance across the area, we can't help but admire the achievements of the electricity sector and the construction forces. We hope that in the future, the electricity supply will be more abundant for both production and consumption, reducing the sudden power outages caused by overload like in recent years."

The 500kV circuit 3 transmission line from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi (Hung Yen) was officially opened on August 27th.
According to calculations by the Northern Power Corporation, across the entire region, to meet the demand for attracting foreign investment and developing new industrial zones, the electricity demand is approximately 20,000 MW, potentially reaching 23,500-24,000 MW during hot weather. Meanwhile, the current available capacity of all sources in the North is only 17,500-17,900 MW. It is estimated that the North will face a daily electricity shortage of 30.9 million kWh, and this could reach a peak of 50.8 million kWh during extreme weather conditions.
In Thanh Hoa province, electricity demand is projected to grow by an average of 10% annually, making it the province with the highest load growth rate in Northern Vietnam. Accordingly, the peak load capacity could reach approximately 1,350 MW and is forecast to reach 2,150 MW by 2025 (due to an additional 949 MW registered by power plants and 10% from other needs...). Areas with high, concentrated load and high growth rates in the coming period are those with vibrant economies such as: Thanh Hoa City - Sam Son City - Quang Xuong; Nghi Son town - Nong Cong - Nhu Thanh - Nhu Xuan; Bim Son town - Hoang Hoa - Hau Loc - Nga Son... When the 500 kV circuit 3 power line comes into operation, it will contribute to "relieving" these difficulties and urgent issues, as the General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group affirmed: "The power transmission project plays a particularly important role in improving the stability reserve on the North-Central interface, contributing to supplementing power from power sources in the North Central region to the load centers in the Northern region."

As stated by the Prime Minister at the inauguration ceremony, future high-tech projects, digital transformation applications, especially semiconductor chip production, will certainly require more abundant and high-quality power sources. The project's success not only demonstrates the aspirations, confidence, and strength of national unity but also provides valuable lessons. These include lessons on leadership and guidance, mobilizing the strength of the political system, the determination to be self-reliant and self-sufficient, and effective information and communication to create internal strength. These lessons will be multiplied and applied to key national projects in the future.
