Severe floods, most notably the recent Typhoon No. 11, have submerged many areas in Thai Nguyen, causing heavy damage to livelihoods, agriculture , infrastructure, and transportation.
The Gia Bay hydrological station recorded flood levels reaching 29.9m, more than 1m higher than the previous year's historical flood peak, causing tens of thousands of houses to be flooded, vehicles to be submerged, and disrupting production and business. The successive floods also created a constant sense of anxiety whenever the weather turned rainy.
In this context, the Provincial Party Committee's policy of investing in flood control infrastructure in the provincial center, along with the project to build a new Gia Bay bridge, has created positive signals and has been widely welcomed by the people with enthusiasm and expectation.
With a total projected investment of over 22,900 billion VND, the project not only addresses individual flooding points but aims for a comprehensive solution, including the construction of the Thac Huong 2 spillway, completion of the dike system on both banks of the Cau River, deployment of drainage pumping stations, dredging of the Mo Linh stream, and construction of new bridges to expand the flood drainage capacity.
The new Gia Bay bridge, with a total investment of over 600 billion VND, will address the long-standing bottleneck in water flow, ensuring traffic and improving drainage capacity for the entire area.
People are relieved that after the natural disaster, they received support to repair the damage and saw a well-planned investment strategy to prevent future risks. What they most eagerly awaited was swift and decisive action, so that the situation of "worrying when it rains, fleeing when the water rises" would no longer exist.
At a recent meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vuong Quoc Tuan emphasized the urgent need to address urban flooding. He instructed the Department of Construction to complete a survey and assessment of the drainage system and propose solutions for localized flooding before November 30th, demonstrating the provincial leadership's urgency in translating policy into concrete action.
Flooding causes property damage and directly affects the health and safety of the people. The province's bold implementation of this large-scale project demonstrates its responsibility to the people and is a step towards a more comprehensively developed, sustainable, and safer Thai Nguyen city in the face of climate change.
The people believe that with the decisive leadership, the coordination of departments, and the consensus of the community, the project will soon be implemented, bringing about noticeable changes. They eagerly await the day to see the new "shape" of the drainage system and are reassured that Thai Nguyen will no longer be overwhelmed during each rainy season.
