Walker has decided to leave the England national team. |
At the age of 35, Walker announced his decision to retire from international football and will not be included in England's plans for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. His final match with England was last summer against Senegal.
In his farewell message, Walker acknowledged: "I am sad to have to make this choice, but also very proud of what I achieved with England. Representing my country in five major tournaments, reaching finals and playing alongside amazing teammates and coaches has been a great honor."
In his international career, Walker has participated in five major tournaments, most notably reaching the finals of Euro 2021 and Euro 2024 twice, and the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. He was also part of the first generation of England players since 1966 to reach the final of a major tournament.
England manager Thomas Tuchel paid tribute to the veteran defender: "I believe all England fans will congratulate Kyle on a fantastic international career. 14 years of dedication and 5 major tournaments are a testament to his commitment."
Walker made his England debut in 2009 under manager Fabio Capello in a friendly against Spain at Wembley. A few days later, he made a strong impression by winning the Man of the Match award in his first start against Sweden.
At club level, Walker has played for several teams including Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Man City, AC Milan, and currently Burnley.
