Getting rich through coffee replanting.

(GLO) - Previously, the family of Puih Khe (39 years old, Jrai ethnic minority, A village, Gào commune) owned more than 2 hectares of coffee trees that were over 20 years old, of an old variety, resulting in poor growth and low yield.

In 2022, he decided to replant his orchard using grafting techniques with new varieties instead of completely cutting down and replanting as before, in order to save costs and shorten the maintenance time.

“At first, I was worried because I didn't have much experience and feared that if it didn't work out, I would suffer significant losses. But with the dedicated guidance of the agricultural extension officers, I gradually grasped the techniques,” shared Puih Khe.

After three years, his family's coffee plantation has yielded abundant fruit, with an estimated productivity of about 18 tons per hectare. The lush green rows of coffee plants with uniformly ripened fruit not only bring clear economic benefits but also affirm the correct direction in crop replanting in the locality. His plantation has also become a place for many farmers in the region to visit and learn from his experience.

Thanks to accumulated income, Mr. Puih Khe continued to expand his production area. To date, his family owns nearly 3 hectares of coffee, of which 2.3 hectares have entered the stable fruiting period. By the end of 2025, with high coffee prices, his family will have a significant income, creating a foundation for further investment and expansion of production.

“Farming now doesn't just rely on experience; you have to learn new things and diligently study the techniques. When the coffee plants grow well, I feel more secure. I hope that the villagers will boldly change their mindset to do business more effectively,” said Puih Khe.

Besides growing coffee, Puih Khe also cultivates 1 hectare of rice paddies and raises a herd of 15 cows. Thanks to this, his family's total income is estimated to reach approximately 800 million VND in 2025. Not only has he enriched his own family, but he also actively supports fellow farmers in the village with seeds and production experience, contributing to spreading the spirit of overcoming difficulties.

Mr. Rơ Châm Sâu, Chairman of the Gào Commune Farmers' Association, said: "Mr. Puih Khe is one of the exemplary farmers who have excelled in production and business for many years in the locality. We regularly organize visits for our members to learn from his model right in his garden to directly exchange experiences. He has become a leader and supporter for many farmers to develop their economy, contributing to reducing the poverty rate in the locality."
