Implementing the One Commune One Product program, in 2024, the entire district had 34 OCOP products, including 2 products meeting 4-star standards and 32 products meeting 3-star standards. To date, 100% of communes and towns in the district have OCOP products, with Tu Xa and Vinh Lai communes each having 8 products, Phung Nguyen commune having 4 products, and Son Vi commune having 3 products...

OCOP products mainly focus on the unique and strong products of the locality, such as: Holusa soy sauce concentrate, Ancestral Land soy sauce of Hoa Lua One-Member Limited Company (Cao Xa commune); pumpkin noodles, turmeric noodles, jasmine flower noodles, pear guava, macadamia nuts (Vinh Lai commune); fermented bean curd, fresh shiitake mushrooms, dried vermicelli (Son Vi commune); Ha black grapes, grape wine, Phung Nguyen glutinous rice wine (Phung Nguyen commune)...

Building on the success of cultivating the Ha Den grape variety – one of the OCOP 3-star products with its distinctive flavor and superior quality – the Lam Thao Agricultural Cooperative has continued to innovate by developing additional processed grape products, increasingly asserting its position in the market thanks to its quality and safe production process, bringing a new, rich flavor from its homeland.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ha, Director of Lam Thao Agricultural Cooperative, said: Along with the Ha Den grape product, in 2024, Lam Thao grape wine was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product. The cooperative's products are mainly sold in convenience stores and restaurants in the province and some neighboring provinces.

In addition, the cooperative has built sales channels on social media platforms such as Zalo and Facebook. This production model helps build value and brand for local agricultural products, while simultaneously increasing income and improving the lives of cooperative members and local people.

Along with linking and consuming products, the OCOP program has helped businesses to self-assess the quality of their products, thereby finding solutions to improve product quality, paying more attention to improving designs, food safety, controlling codes and barcodes, and traceability... creating a legal framework when participating in chains and supermarkets, expanding consumption markets, increasing revenue, and ensuring sustainable development.

Over the past period, along with strengthening propaganda work, Lam Thao district has continued to coordinate and integrate the mobilization of resources to prioritize the development of key and distinctive products participating in the program; strengthen training and professional development in program and OCOP product management; provide training in production and business management for businesses; organize annual evaluation and ranking of OCOP products; strengthen inspection and supervision of product quality of businesses and OCOP products after recognition; promote activities to advertise, facilitate trade, and connect supply and demand for OCOP products...

At the same time, the district has integrated funding from various programs, projects, and local budgets to support OCOP products that meet 3-star standards or higher. As a result, these products have proven effective, have a strong market demand, and have become a driving force for rural economic development.

For example, in 2024, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, in coordination with the District Agricultural Extension Station, the People's Committee of Tien Kien commune, and the Tien Kien Agricultural and Electricity Service Cooperative, implemented a model: Linking production and consumption of high-quality honey products with the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program for beekeeping households belonging to the Tien Kien commune beekeeping cooperative, with a scale of 350 bee colonies and a honey harvest of over 3,000 liters.

The model received partial funding from the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to purchase a honey moisture separation machine and other ingredients such as sugar and pollen as supplementary feed for the bees. After 8 months of implementation, the honey with the moisture separated had a higher concentration (20-30%), a longer shelf life, and a selling price of approximately 30% compared to regular honey.

Overall, throughout the entire model implementation period, households earned over 400 million VND from selling honey. In 2024, honey from the Tien Kien Commune Beekeeping Cooperative was one of 12 products selected for the district's 3-star OCOP product evaluation.

Mr. Le Xuan Duong, one of the members of the cooperative, shared: “By joining the cooperative, we receive technical support and assistance in raising and caring for the bees to ensure the best quality honey, guaranteeing both the quantity and quality of the bee colonies. At the same time, the OCOP certification helps the product gain a foothold in the market, making it easier to sell and earning the trust and support of customers.”

By 2025, Lam Thao district aims to develop and standardize at least 6 more OCOP products to achieve 3-star rating or higher; develop at least 1 new entity (cooperative, production group, individual business, or household) to participate in OCOP product standardization; and develop 1-2 more OCOP product value chains with regular, stable, and economically efficient supply.

It can be said that the OCOP program has created conditions for localities to produce many high-quality goods with distinctive characteristics and advantages of the region, contributing to the development of the rural economy.

However, for a product to be certified under the OCOP program, it requires not only the involvement of state management agencies but also the efforts, flexibility, and creativity of producers, as well as the promotion of trade, product advertising, and market connections through various means. This ensures that the development of OCOP products not only achieves quantitative targets but also fulfills the program's objectives, effectiveness, and significance.
