How to reduce postpartum hair loss

Avoid tying your hair too tightly, limit styling, and use grapefruit peel and soapberry to wash your hair to reduce hair loss and promote faster hair growth after childbirth.

Many women experience significant hair loss after childbirth, even baldness, causing anxiety and low self-esteem. According to Dr. Vu Thi Thuy Trang, a dermatologist and cosmetic skin specialist at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, postpartum hair loss is a temporary condition that can last 6-12 months. There are many causes, including hormonal changes, stress, anemia, and nutritional deficiencies during and after pregnancy.

To improve this situation, Doctor Trang advises women to pay attention to the following:

Proper hair care : After giving birth, you should use a volumizing shampoo containing ingredients like protein, which helps coat and make hair look thicker. Avoid shampoos labeled "nourishing shampoo" as they often contain a lot of conditioner, which can weigh down and flatten hair. The conditioner you should use during this period is one formulated for thin hair and should only be applied to the ends of your hair.

Wash your hair gently, avoiding brushing vigorously when it's wet and tangled. Don't tie your hair in a tight ponytail or braid, as this can create tension and cause more hair loss.

You can chop up grapefruit peel, soapberry, and guava leaves, put them in a pot of boiling water, let it cool, and then use it to wash your hair. Besides cleansing your hair, washing with these ingredients creates a relaxing feeling and reduces stress. You can also apply grapefruit essential oil, coconut oil, or aloe vera to your hair, from root to tip.
