Working for hire to 'change words' for children.

QTO - For over 20 years, to treat her husband's congenital heart disease, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh (43 years old), residing in Duong Le Dong village, Trieu Binh commune, borrowed a considerable amount of money from many sources. In June 2025, her husband passed away, leaving Ms. Anh and her two young children with countless worries and difficulties. Despite her weak health, she still strives to work odd jobs to provide for her children's education, hoping for a brighter future for them...

In the house built and donated by the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Trieu Phong (formerly) district in 2018, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh and her three children are still unable to overcome the pain of losing their husband and father.

Ms. Anh said that in 2005, she and Mr. TCD got married and later moved into their own house on land given to them by her husband's parents. Life was difficult back then, so the couple traveled far and wide to buy scrap metal and iron to build a temporary house. As time passed, their first daughter, Tu Thi Thuy Nga, and son, Tu Cong Phu, were born, bringing joy to the young couple. To care for their children, Ms. Anh and her husband had to work even harder. Perhaps due to overwork, Mr. TCD's heart condition worsened.

"Twenty years ago, my husband only had osteoarthritis, but it gradually progressed and developed into heart disease without us even realizing it. For about 10 years now, the disease has worsened, so my husband had to be hospitalized for surgery to implant a pacemaker. Multiple surgeries and continuous long-term treatment resulted in a significant amount of borrowed money. In June 2025, my husband passed away, and the loss of our emotional support has devastated my three children and me...", Ms. Anh shared.

Over the years, due to strenuous labor, Ms. Anh's health has seriously deteriorated, and her degenerative cervical disease has worsened. However, she still works for a store selling electrical supplies and equipment to support her family, pay off debts, and provide for her children's education.

"My health is unstable, so I can't farm. That's why I have to ask relatives to help me cultivate over one sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of rice field so I don't have to buy rice all year round. I work as a hired hand at an electrical goods store, earning about 4.5 million dong a month, which is only enough to cover my family's living expenses and my children's education. I still owe over 50 million dong that I haven't been able to pay off yet," Ms. Anh confided.

Recently, Tu Thi Thuy Nga's joint disease has worsened. "I started experiencing joint pain more than six years ago, and it's gotten progressively worse. Sometimes my legs ache so much that I limp. I'm worried that this joint disease will develop into heart disease like my father's. However, due to our difficult family circumstances, I haven't been able to get specialized treatment," Thuy Nga said.

Meanwhile, Tu Cong Phu, a fifth-grade student, weighs less than 30kg and is significantly smaller than many of his peers.

"Since my child was 3 years old, she has shown very strange symptoms such as occasional pain and swelling in both feet, and a constant itchy rash that makes her cry, feel uncomfortable, lose her appetite, and become thin and pale. I know my two children are sick, but our finances are too difficult to take them for proper examination and treatment," Ms. Ngoc Anh said sadly.

Despite their illnesses and difficult living circumstances, sisters Thuy Nga and Cong Phu have achieved impressive academic results, consistently earning the title of excellent student for many consecutive years.

"The Nga sisters are students at Tran Huu Duc Primary and Secondary School in Trieu Binh commune. Despite their difficult circumstances, they have both strived to excel in their studies and personal development. Recently, the school's Board of Directors has connected with various resources to support the promotion of education and talent, with special attention paid to the circumstances of Nga and Phu. In the future, we will continue to connect with sponsors and sincerely hope to receive assistance from kind-hearted individuals so that the sisters can continue to excel in their studies and lives," said Pham Thi Hoa Ly, Principal of Tran Huu Duc Primary and Secondary School.

All support for the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh should be sent to:
